Whining sound on diff!

Well asl you all know ive already posted about my car whining when accelerating and last night i had a friend who is a mechanic ride in my car, and he heard the whinning and the howling when depressing the clutch. He said it sounds like its coming from the rear like everyone has said and said it sounds like it needs new or more fluid. Said the mileage on my car is high and have not changed the fluids and could be the cause. At least i dont have to worry that its not the transfer case . Will be taking the car to the dealer sometime this week to change all fluids and see if it solves the problem. If not then the rear diff might be damaged.

Well, i spoke to Jon form TRE and he was very helpful. Explained to him the situation and told him the noise the car was making. Told him the sound was coming from the rear. He said that most likeky its b/c of low fluid level somce o have 14k and i have not changed the fluid. Also advised to change the tc and diff fluids every 3500 miles. Will be changing the fluid this weekend and hopefull y it will solve tha problem.

Cool, I havent tried locating the whining sound on my car but it wont hurt changing the fluids if it can possibly fix the problem. I might get it done tomorrow, so I'll let ya know if it works out for me.

Yea I have the same whining noise on all gears. I also can produce the howling noise you experienced when downshifting from 3rd to 2nd, and sometimes upshifting from 2nd to 3rd or 1st to 2nd. Im sick today so I probably cant do it today. I might just bring it to the shop to do it because Im a bit anxious to get this problem fixed.

I went to ams and got the fluids changed, they put in some redline oil and now the whining noise is not as loud and I couldnt really hear the whining noise after 3rd gear. I think the howling noise when downshifting or upshifting is gone, but I need to drive the car some more before I can be certain. Either way, the new oil helps a lot and should help in your case. Doesnt hurt to get all the old oil flushed anyways.

Awesome!!!!! Thats what everyone has told me that the fluids need to be changed. Once the fluids settle in more, it should help out even more!!Let me know when you drive it more to see if it helps out even more. Thanks bro.

Well I do hear the whine in 1st gear, which I think the noise was there when I first bought the car new. Otherwise, after about 30-40miles after the fluid change, the whining noises from 2nd to 5th seems to have dissapeared. I tried downshifting at low speeds without rev matching and I didnt hear any howling noises. Keep in mind I only tested downshifting without rev matching a couple of times. Because Im used to revmatching and heal/toe I dont want to keep on trying to reproduce the howling noise.

Again, I will need to drive the car longer to be certain though. Tomorrow I will have to drive around all day to do some work, so I will keep you posted then. In the meantime, it might not hurt to try to convince your dealer to change your fluids to see if it fixes the problem. My dealer wanted to charge me to replace the fluids, which is so bs.
