And what sucks is that its not just a ticket you can pay you have to go to court.
here is the question. is there some kind of exhaust system i can use that is very stealth. meaning black muffler (or thin that will hide behind the bumper)and very low noise? but in the prosesses giving some kind of hp increase. i know nothing will produce the power of a 3" tbe.
i say black muffler or thin beacuse the 3 times out of 5 they specifically told me that they didnt hear it they saw the polished canister and made me rev it a little about 3500 rpm.
my thoughts are:
!) a thin style muffler that will be hidden behind bumper i'll even paint it black.( i have the maganflow and it hangs down so they can see it.)
2) 2.5" tbe again paired with ^ option 1. (but is a 2.5" loud never heard one.)
3) back to stock
if someone that has a diffrent set up than me and can give his thoughts, or if a vendor (buschur, vishnu, any vendor) could chime in it would be great.
if anybody got a headache or is confused after reading this to sum up.
i need a quiet tbe that is not noticeable looking at the car

dont know if that is going to work being that buschur exhaust are pretty loud and that the 2 of the 5 times they heard it and not even at wot.
I am with everyone on the paint idea. Going to do it this weekend. I love my Buschur cat back for the power and muted sound, but looking at the back of the car all you see is a shiney magnaflow muffler. I think this screams "loud ricer car" and will only tend to attract the law.
Dude you bought the Buschur it is the possibly the loudest exhaust you can by for an Evo.
I for one can say if you want quiet performance go with the RMR if you want stealth to the max go with Works reworked stock muffler. But for power you have the best on your car unfortunaly it is the loudest as well. Best of luck to you with your adventures with the PoPo

Ok, I work at a Ford Dealership with an ex NYC cop. He said to do this.
Option 1: If you have a friend that has a car shop, have them right up a bill saying that you paid to have your exhaust returned to stock (eventhough you never changed the exhaust at all). Show this to the judge and explain that you were not aware of the law and you fixed the problem and are sorry, he'll most likely throw it out because you already fixed the problem and apologized. The only problem with this is that you may get caught again and you can't use that excuse then.
Option 2: Ask for a court hearing and ask to see a copy of the police officers decibal meter reading on your exhaust. You said that cop never did a reading, he just "thought" it was too loud. Find out what your Decibal limit is and since the cop never proved it was too loud and he was just guessing, he has no proof and it should get thrown out.
My friend said to go with Option 1 though, dress nice and be polite.
Hope this helps.

Sometimes the world does not make sense. At this point I think NYEVO8 can drop 5 hp and be happy.
NYEVO8-
Get a high flow cat. Paint the end black. If you need to go quieter add a 3" resonator.

Has anyone tried one of these?

This *might* be an option, if it works well.

I also suggest this exhaust.Very quiet ,alittle restrictive but atleast you will not have to worry about getting fined.

The resonator would have to be either welded into or flanged and bolted into your system. A good muffler shop can do it.
That is by far the best option, installing a cat, which should be on the car anyway.
We have high flow cats, they drop the sounds way down on the exhaust. Paint the muffler itself black.
Done.
