If you tighten the clamps too much, they'll bend and break. I usually tighten them til they're snug, then give it another 1/2-3/4 turn.

I'm sorry, but I don't understand how the BOV can cause or cure boost spikes..... Doesn't the BOV only work when you let up on the pedal so the compressed air in the intake has someplace to go when the throttle plate is closed? I guess a defective or ill chosen BOV could leak and maybe cause some loss of pressure, but I really don't see how it could have too much effect on anything. After all, isn't the stock BOV designed specifically for the EVO? Would it not be designed for the blowers we have?

The difference would almost be non existant. But what I assume the change in spike is that you will have less of a spike in boost with a leaky DV as opposed to one that doesn't leak. I also have the MR DV and have had no problems with it, it flutters a little bit under low boost, but no big deal.

There's a difference between how a valve was designed to work and how close a valve is BUILT to those design specs. One of the biggest performance limiting factors of the factory DV is the plastic material. This limits material strength and surface smoothness needed for a good seal. Any type of boost leak would be less than ideal. I believe Silver Surfer did a leak test on the factory DV and found it to leak before 19 psi. And when you have a leak, your turbo will have to spin faster to achieve the same amount of boost. This robs hp.

WOuldnt a leaky dv cause a high spike than one that is not leaking because the turbo has to work harder to achieve same boost?

If the air from your turbo is leaking out the DV, it will not reach the manifold and cause a spike in boost. Just think of a leak like having a hole in your IC piping.

I don't know about that..... Ever have a leak in your IC or IC pipes?, the car will run like crap if it runs at all. Unless the DV is leaking from the pressure side to the athmosphere, I cant see how that would be like a leaking IC pipe......

Okay, bad example. A leaky BOV will only leak at or near full boost.

The two aftermarket valves that work best that I've seen here, are the 1g crushed, and the JDM MR DV, I; however, sadly still have the stocker pos, me have no money. But I would definitly go for the MR one

OK, I'm quoting myself because I've installed the JDM MR BOV in my car and answered my own questions...... I never had any boost spikes before and I was not aware of any problems with my stock BOV. I got the new aluminum BOV because I thought it looked cool and was a "real" MR valve......

Well, to my great and pleasant surprise, the new DV seems to improve performance and driveability a good bit Now, the driveability part might be a placebo effect, but the new DV definitely holds boost better and perhaps because of that, it makes the car run stronger. For me it was a definite improvement plus it looks pretty cool

Does anyone here know where I can get a JDM BOV at a reasonable Price?
Well at least from a vender that has one in stock at a good price.

Thanks

Derek
