Adjust clutch engagement

Is it possible to adjust where (in the pedal throw) the clutch engages/disengages? Right now mine eng/diseng about 1"-2" off the floor. The clutch is relatively new and it was this way even with the old clutch.

I remember something about a clutch slave cylinder rod that was longer or shorter or something...but I can't remember anything about it.

There's a threaded rod up above the clutch pedal that can be adjusted. It's a real pain to get to, but that's where it's done. All you do is reach up there with a wrench (don't remember what size), loosen up the nut holding the rod in place, and then turn the rod to adjust the engagement. If you move the rod towards the firewall the clutch will engage higher and vise-versa. Just remember to tighten the nut again so the rod doesn't slip

Good thing I saw this thread. I keep forgetting to do mine. Along with how to adjust the engagement were reasons for doing it. You might want to do a search for it. There was some good information there.

Its just a pain in the *** the position you have to be in to get to it. I think its a 6mm wrench you'll need.

The nut is 12mm. It's not that much of a PITA after you've done it about 20 times.

Follow this guide on how to adjust your clutch:
http://mywebpages.comcast.net/njdsm2/clutch.html

That link is for adjusting the clutch on a DSM, but the same concepts should apply to the EVO.

The only difference between the EVO and those pics is the location of the clutch master cylinder rod. If you crawl under your dash and move the clutch pedal, you should be able to see it move. That's the rod you need to adjust. It's closest to the driver's side fender.

Wait for your clutch to break in. The engagement can change it's position with some aftermarket clutches during break in and if you adjust it too soon, the clutch may ultimately not be disengaging completely.

If you are running a twin plate that has a narrower engagement travel, your clutch's engagement will actually feel different depending on your seat adjustment, and belive it or not, on the type of shoes you wear (thick or thin soled shoes).

My reccommendation would be to speak with your clutch manufacturer first before playing with it's adjustment.
