new FMIC, less hp?!?

ok, about a month ago, i installed a Turbo XS FMIC. the kit looks cool, its BIG, and gets exactly the attention i want. BUT!!! 2 issues that i noticed with the new FMIC.

1.) after the install, i sat back and took a close look. the whole unit sits about 1-2 inches to the driver side... when staring at it from a distance, its not too bad, but when someone else notices it when looking at it... its kinda embarassing.

2.) THE REASON FOR THIS POST (sorry about #1... its kinda off topic, and i was just wondering if anyone else has seen this)

after i installed the FMIC i felt a small decrease in pull when reving through the gears. it feels like a 10-15 hp LOSS!!!! wtf? isnt a FMIC supposed to get a colder charge and help that colder denser air make more boom in the combustion chambers? im confused. i checked the unit for any leaks 2 times already, no holes in it... any one else had this issue with an aftermarket FMIC?
what do i gotta do to get the gain i expected? the Injen FMIC kit has proven dyno'd at +14whp..... i expected close to +8whp from this guy.....

Yeah.. that's why I wouldn't buy a IC just for looks :\ You get a pressure drop with big IC's on a stock turbo.

Cheap fix is to get an MBC and turn your boost back up. I lost about 1psi when I put in my TurboXS FMIC. But I never noticed the power loss even before adjusting the boost back up.

Check all your hoses and clamps to make sure there isnt a leak? Any difference with boost on your boost gauge?

hey the lower ic pipe that connects to the turbo sometimes you will need to put some sealent or a thick gasket. Sometimes it can leak under high boost.

Check for leaks. Then check the boost. See if you're running the same amount of boost as before. As mentioned earlier, you'll most likely have to turn your boost back up. The larger FMIC has more volume to fill before you can reach full boost.

OK. think about it. Turbo stuffs air into engine. The shortest distance to the engine = highest air pressure/ velocity. The down side is compressing this air creates heat. The intercooler removes this heat, BUT adds volume to the intake charge side. The turbo has to fill the volume if the intercooler and pipng before it even gets to the engine to make power.

It's a balance between turbo and intercooler size. A free flowing exhaust will dramatically improve results, as will turning up the boost.

i now understand the more cubic air volume = more preasure needed to obtain full psi. i guess the turbo knowledge still evades me as i was a nut for NA hondas

ok ,been a week since i made this post. i have spoken with a local turbo tuner and what he said kinda puzzled me.

i asked him if the new intercooler i have has "too much" volume causing a loss in Psi. he said that the turbo xs intercooler was just "not efficient". i know i can trust this guy cuz he has personally built a 10.7 FWD 4dr civic, DAILY DRIVEN. and he knows his ****. but when i went out on the freeway, reading my blitz DTT it read 1.3ish bar up to 4500-5k rpm. then DUMPED to .9 - 1.0 bar all the way to redline. i know evos run 20psi and taper off to 18psi near redline, but this is way jacked up. if im not mmistaken, im only getting 13psi at redline.
its still boost, but not enough to beat stock. i can notice a big drop in hp at higher RPMs.

now, i have checked the intercooler and surrounding areas for leaks, and loose points in the new I/C hose, and its installed correctly. no leaks.

however i did install a 3'DP and hi flow cat, and where the H/F cat flange bolts to the stock cat back section, there is an exhaust leak. this shouldn't effect the Psi going on before the combustion chambers, could it? it's a very small leak tho. not an ex-pornstar gaping hole.
