Which boost controller should i buy? Profec b spec2 or Profec type s

Im new to evo tuning. Which boost controller is better? Greddy profec b spec 2 or profec type s. The type s supposedly has a better/bigger solenoid but the profec b has a digital readout. I want the one that is most reliable.

curiosity... why go with an electronic boost controller? bling factor?

i personally have an apexi-avcr but like other boost controllers.. they have a tendancy to fail time to time... i always keep an mbc in my car just in case.. for an mbc... my suggestion is the dejon tool... cheap.. to the point.. and most importantly... IT WORKS..... best bang for the buck bro!

alot of people had problems with the spec 2......I don't think Al recommends them either due to inconsistent boost....I haven't heard really anything on the type s......My personal opinion is to go with the Hallman MBC that Al sells for like $95 shipped.....I don't think I've heard of 1 person having any problems with that thing....I have one in my car and it took about 15 minutes to install it and it holds 20 psi to redline like a champ !!!! Hope everything works out for ya, and enjoy your ride

I've an MBC and its perfect, Hallman. Holds 21PSI like a rock, no wiring or anything about it.

The Profec B II is definately worth the few extra dollars as it has warning features that automatically cut boost if you overboost. Nice safety feature. Also, it has peak hold boost gauge which is handy and it holds boost perfectly. I've never had a problem having it hold boost on either the stock or even external gate model turbo kits.

Unfortunately, I have a problem trying to keep boost consistent on the Profec B spec II. Its ok at lower gears but if you're at WOT at higher gears if will tend to fluctuate and I only run mine at 22 psi.
I rather prefer the old Profec B. Its steady and simple to use.

My other preference, the Blitz DSBC. Has a digital readout for boost as well, works something like a Profec B. Works on gain numbers alone to achieve desire boost.

I called roadrace engineering about which controller to buy. They sell the profec b spec 2. They said that both the type s and profec b spec 2 are both good buys. he said that he would go with the type s due to its simplicity (like a manual boost controller) and it has a bigger, better/reliable solenoid.

Of course the Type S works like old Profec B but there are threads around here complaining about the Profec Type S with it not able to run higher boost levels on the evo. Search around you'll find it.

I have the old profec B. I have no problems with it. What is classified as high boost? I hit 25 psi on accident when I was adjusting it one time. I don't think it would hit 35-40 psi, but it holds everything I want it to. If the solenoid is the same on the type S as it is on the original profec B, then I don't think there will be any problems.

The type s EBC is nice and very simple to use. Just like the old school greddy profec b. There is a problem with the solenoid so I would stay away from that untill greddy fixes the problem. They are aware of it. The profec b spec 2 is kinda complicated to use with a bunch of setting to hold boost consitantly. The HKS EZ2 works just like the old school profec b. Rock solid boost all the way to redline.
