Anybody experience higher knock count as perceived by the ecu? I woldn't worry about dmage from the harmonics thing. I would be more concerned about the ecu pulling timing because of more vibration. Maybe you just can't tune as agressively as you could without a pulley?

I've talked to several mechanics about the harmonic frequency. They told me that back in the day this would be an issue as the quality of metal used in the engine was not as high as today. They said the frequency that would have to be reached and sustained would never happen today.

i believe if you search back to the original posts about pulleys, i believe it said Al tested pulleys for any knock reading and there were 0 recorded.. There is no evidence at all to support increased "false" knock thus far.

uh, I went back and did a search which confirmed what I remember Al saying:

Attention : We are seeing a trend on several evos we have tuned

One piece alum pulleys are great on your accs such as a/c or power steering

DO NOT put on on your crank pulley under any circumstances

The Dyno Flash will not function properly IF you have such a pulley

The stock pulley is also a HARMONIC DAMPENER which reduces harmonics in the engine

The removal of this device increases knock sound which causes the ecu to pull timing

The installation of one of these pullies is NOT compatable with any dyno flash

Thank you

PS - I am not aware of structural - long term issues of these pullies over time and have no comment

"When he was in for his initial Dyno Flash back in October, he wasn;t doing that well on power - we thought he must have had a bad load of gas as we saw lots of engine noise and the knock sensor was pulling timing on the stock ecu if we tried to go over 310 whp

At that time - we were unaware of the Crank Pulley issue and we also were unaware that he had crank pulleys installed"

I don't trust Al as far as I could throw his big ***, but his claim makes sense to me. That is why I was asking (a year later) if anyone has had the same experiences. More people than him, should be seeing this happen while tuning, if this is a side effect.

yeah thats intresting.. If only one tuner is experiencing this though I dont know if you can call his opinion fact.

Any news on this?

How about if you mount this when you build the engine and after that balance the whole thing?
I'm takling about using a JUN crankshaft and all custom parts in the engine.. Will this still be a bad idea?
