Any Pulley Updates?
Im wondering if anyone has and update of a problem experienced using lightened pulleys. I have a full set siting in my car and im about to install at least two of them, and leave the crank alone (drop a few lbs maybe). All I have heard are negative opinions with absolutely no evidence of the damage these can cause. Does anyone have pictures of damage caused to the evo by using light weight pulleys?

People can post as many engineering opinions they want but in the end they are all opinions, and the only thing that really maters is the statistical data. If X amount of people are running pulleys and 0 have had any problems that can be directly attributed to the pieces the its reasonably safe to run them. Considering they are dyno proven to ad 10-15whp, and i got them the full set for 120 beause of all the pulley smack talk, that sure would be the cheapest HP gain i have ever picked up.

they have been dynoed by a couple people and they provide between 10-15whp.. and i believe that was just for a crank pulley. I might be going this saturday so i might be able to give some idea after the install compared to other cars.

we'll see as miles add... no one wants to be the unfortunate bastardation that gets the his engine broken cuz there was a lack of evidence that pulleys are bad. ltos of the people that have complained about it complained on older cars... so we'll see how all this holds up.
sometimes don't you wish you could just call up a mitsu engineer and ask them exactly what hte f would happen if xy and z.... man... that would make things so much easier.

I have posted on this topic before
I put a complete set of unorthodox racing underdriven pulleys, including crank pulley, on my Evo when I bought it new in 03.
33,000 miles later, ALMOST all racing miles, not a single problem. This is with a 345 whp bigger turbo car.
I even trailer to open road races, so those miles reflect very little street time.

I actually just started trailering this year, so a considerable number of the miles were actually accrued driving back and forth to the track and open road races. I should have said very few were street cruising miles.
That being said , I doubt if there are any Evo's on this board with more race miles or sustained high RPM operation. What an incredible tough car.

IMHO get a pully. You will notice more vibration but your Engine will rev FASTER, IDK HOW such a small pully can do this but it does it. Low end torque is added not to mention it smoothes out your topend.
I have 47,000 Miles on my car BTW.

hmm.. well mine was the perrin pulley or any other single expensive pulley. It was a set that Vivid Racing was selling that i believed was the unorthodox setup.. but after i received them i wasnt what quite sure who the manufacturer was as they were loose in a box. If im going to do the crank pulley i dont want an inferior product on there. I dont really mind the added noise. Eddybear.. do you have pics of you track beast? Any idea if they use light weight pulleys on the rally cars? Or did i should say.. as there are now so many regulations i bet they need standard size.
I'm happy w/ my Perrin pulley. You really notice the decrease in spool time once installed. I can't say that I notice 10-15 HP, but I'm still happy with it. No problems so far (knock on wood).
