Radiator fan kicking on after cold start?

So ive had the car now for about 3 weeks and have just over 1300 miles on it. For the past 700 or so miles ive noticed that the radiator fan kicks on about 15-20 seconds after the car is started and before the temp needle has had a chance to move. It will stay on for about 20 or so seconds and shut off then cycle like this. Car drives fine, the temp gauge has never gone above normal levels, and stays planted throughout all types of driving scenarios. I have NOT gotten a CEL or anything else to indicate a serious problem. Just curious what steps to take to help determine the issue.

Also, about the same time I noticed this pattern, I also noticed that at idle it almost feels like the car is missing slightly. Again, driving under all types of conditions the car feels fine. These are just two things that have got me thinking and hope some of you guys would be able to shed some light. Thanks. Phil

FYI. car is stock other than boost gauge.

I have never seen this before but I do believe that you are having a small a problem (nothing major but you should look into it )

If the car is stock take it back to the dealer and at least have them see it and record it just in case for the future.

I believe that the sensor is damaged or not working properly. Since your car is new
I would take it to the dealer or buy a new sensor and see if it makes any difference.

Good luck

Have you got the heater controls set with air going to the screen? That will cause the a/c to come on - and the fan will cycle on and off as you describe.

HVAC controls are set at 50/50, defrost/floor. A/C is definitely off, however, I adjusted the control to this setting about the same time this started happening. Hrmm . Its an 05 GSR.

Even at 50/50, defrost brings the a/c on to dry the air going to the screen. Turn off the defrost and see if that 'fixes' it.

lol...ill give it a try after work. Any way to turn this feature off so that I can have it vent to the screen without the a/c kicking on? With the si I had before there was a series of buttons to push to turn it off.

In my 03 if I have it set to the setting you use and my fan is on the ac will cycle and you hear the rad fan. Turn it to floor only and see what happens. Also the a/c light doesn't come on when I use the same setting.

^^^Interesting

I've had the fan come on in the morning all the time without thinking much about it. But come to think about it, I leave the fan selector on the windshield setting all the time. Maybe it's time to put it on the face blower instead.
