Odd problem with the oil light...

It just started doing this today.

I have HKS 272/272 cams in my car and as most of you know that causes a lumpy idle. I'm flashed & tuned by TurboTrix also.

What it just started doing today, at idle, in neutral, with the car parked on a level ground, my RPMs go up & down at idle just like they usually do, idling all lumpy and whatnot with the cams.

But today the oil light (the red one that comes on when the car is about to stall) started idling with my RPMs. Flashing on & off in sync with my tach going up & down. But it goes away when I rev, or I'm driving normally, it only flashes (in sync with my RPMs) when I'm idling.

Also, my gas milage seems to have improved? I'm at a little under half a tank right now with 200 miles on my current tank. I have 94 octane in the car right now.

Changed my oil & fresh spark plugs about 2,000 miles ago.

Mods are 3" downpipe, test pipe, catback exhaust, AEM short ram intake, MBC & a Walbro 255lph fuel pump, flashed by TurboTrix last October and my mods haven't changed since I got flashed.

Any ideas?

Have you checked your oil levels just to be sure?

Not yet, don't I have to check oil levels when the car is cooled down?

I just got home not too long ago...

no, the oil can be warm or cold, but it sounds like your car is idling too low and causing the oil pressure to fluctuate low as well. try turning up your idle, there is a straight slot screw on the top of the throttle body that can help turn your idle up.

Checked my oil level, and it's a little low I think.

The oil level is halfway down from the top part of the brushed aluminum (discolored) part of the dipstick.

And my air filter is dirty, but not super dirty, it's been through a year of crap, it's on there pretty good.

Any reasons why my car is suddenly losing oil?

I mean, the idle is pretty normal for having 272/272 cams on the car, but it's just the fact that the oil light dances in sync with the idle now is weird.

its because the idle is dropping down farther than it used to, possibly due to a weather change or the like. Just simply turn your idle up via that screw and you will be fine.

I would have to agree ^^^, it's from the fluctuation in your idle. When the idle dips, it causes the oil pressure to drop.

Your oil level is actually supposed to be between the high and low markings on the dip stick. The markings are just the acceptable extremes.

If you are losing oil, I would maybe look into an oil catch can. I bet if you pulled your intake hose off, you'll see lots of oil in there. Now that it's warmer, I wonder if the temp. changes are causing the oil to spurt back into the intake pipe. Just a thought.

Well then mine should be fine, it was between the high & low markings just like you said.

This is the first summer season that I'm driving with the HKS 272/272 cams in my car actually.

What intake hose you talking about? Intercooler piping? Or the actual AEM Short Ram Intake?
