boost cut or fuel cut, what the SH**!!

Oh btw, this is just a copy paste i send to Rob at Road Race Engineering.

Before i start tellin you about my problem, let me give a list of my mods.

3" Turbo Back (RMR downpipe, Ultimate racing test pipe, RS*R catback)
o2 Housing (DNP)
RMR Intake
Greddy FMIC
RMR Intercooler piping
Greddy TYpe s BOV
Defi Gauges
ACT Heavy Duty clutch
RRE Lightened FLy WHeel
RRE Manual Boost COntroller

Im having some problems with Boost Cut. Im currently spiking at 21-22 psi and its dropping to about 18-19 (depending on which gear). Ever since u guys installed the MBC, whenever i get on the gas and the turbo starts spooling, the whole car bogs for a split second. After that split second bog, the car picks right up. Sometimes it cuts repeatedly a second or 2 after the first boost cut.

There are a few different situations depending on the driving.

Say i start in 1st gear and drive the car all the way to redline, i would not experience any boost cut. I can shift from 1st, 2nd, 3rd, without any problems, but when i hit 4th gear and 5th gear, it usually starts acting up.

But say im on the freeway going 70mph in 5th, and i decided to step on the gas all the way. I can hear the turbo spooling and once it hits around 4000rpms, it'll start boost cutting immediately. Maybe 4-5 times in a row. This situation occurs in every gear. (ie. going 30mph in 3rd gear, and if i decide to step on it, it will boost cut)

Here's my boost level within each gear.
1st gear - Spikes at 21psi but drops to approx 18psi
2nd gear - Spikes at 21psi but drops to approx 18psi
3rd gear - Spikes at 21psi but drops to approx 19-20psi
4th gear - 21psi all the way through
5th gear - 21psi all the way through

Im thinking about getting at SAFCII through you guys and have you guys do ur bad *** tuning. But eventually in the future, im gonna get some 272/272 cams from HKS, and i don't know if you would need a ECU for that to tune it properly. If i can drive with 272/272 cams with a SAFCII than ill go ahead and proceed in that direction.

Please give me some info!

Sincerely,
Paul

What they said!! Works great trust me.. even a mail in flash.. but by the looks of your mods you may want to talk with Dynoflash about a custom tune. It more efficient anyways.

www.dynoflash.com

Check his vender site on here and see if there is a scheduled or up and coming appearance in your area. Schedule one ASAP. You need to tune the car even with an open filter intake!!

Also, get the Walbro 255HP fuel pump! Its a must for sure if your gonna flash it!

you should try to see if it is really cutting... try lowering the boost down and see if it goes away. Maybe your getting some sort of phantom knock or something that is causing timing to be pulled.

I've never felt fuel cut in an evo but on my 1G it felt like the tranny/motor fell out and had me looking in the rear view for smoke/parts. It was very intense. When i get some phantom knock i can feel little studders as it pulls timing then returns it.

Just an idea... i had a broken motor mount that was causing my issue. I've heard loose piping/noisy valve lash adjusters or even a banging exhaust can cause it as well. You may be looking at the wrong thing.
