Obviously not.

fromWRXtoEVO.... GEARS is Jon from TRE, aka www.tearmrip.com aka TeamRIP engineering. One of the biggest and probably the best transmission rebuild/upgrade shop in the states. He's rebuilt tons of Evo 5 speeds, a number of 6 speeds, COUNTLESS DSM trannies, offers numerous upgrades, and knows more about transmissions than you could ever hope to know. Don't blow his words off like you have everyone else in this thread.

Interesting!!! That explain that the 5 speeds tranny keeps MR Jon from TRE Gears busy. By the way, what 6 speed tranny has Mr Jon from TRE repaired?

Last but not least I am still waiting for someone to bring the proof that the 5 speed tranny is stornger than the 6 speed tranny. For some reason somone started the topic without the proof just like always.

I explained before that if the 6 speed was weaker than the 5 speed they were not certainly have use it on the FQ400 EVO(405hp 350 pound of torque)

Here it is more info in case ythat you still doubth the strenght of the 6 speed :

This MR has stock 6 speed JDM tranny(fortunately the same that I have in my Japonese EVO 8 MR purchased in the USA), 700whp, stroker kit and runs 9.8@141

Bottom line, don't talk smack about the 6 speed tranny if you don't know the facts.
The 6 speed tranny is NO weaker than the 5 speed.
Remember, I haven't started saying that the 6 speed tranny is stronger, someone said that the 5 speed is stronger which at this point I don't belive/agree until someone can prove it.
It would be fair to say that the 6 speed tranny is likely to be stronger because is the latest tranny built and I don't think Mitsubishi engineers would make a product that is weaker on their top notch Evo 8 .

Don't get me wrong, yes upgrading from the 5 speed tranny to the 6 speed tranny is a good chunk of money and that is a determine factor.

I understand that most of you are very happy with the EVO 8 5speed and most of you would not even think of spending that much money doing the upgrade, I agree but I would not agree with someone saying that the 6 speed is weaker, that is an unfounded statement(I already show you a lot of info about it).

Definately I would not spend myself a few grand on the 6 speed, I don't think the difference is worth the money, that is why the MR came like that as a package, yeah you pay the extra $4500 but at the end of the day it blends well with the other upgrade stuff that the car comes wth.

My personal opinion is that if you have the EVO 8 5 speed , leave it like that(don't get the 6 speed) and use the money in other upgrades unless you have tons of money and can afford the 6 speed wich in my opinion is nicer.

Keep on justifying your reasoning. This is all way too humorous. There is no reason to get your knickers in a knot. You've got the best tranny in the ENTIRE WORLD. Now, does that make you feel any better? Maybe that Tucson heat has gotten to you. Hmmm.

Why does the "Mitsubishi Racing" edition have a more compliant, street-friendly suspension, that pays more dividends driving to the grocery store than on the track?

YAWNNNN.................5 speed, 6 speed...gezz.......i'll gladly have an evo w/ SMG! I like to enjoy the road and not have to shift the damn gears; less shifting = enjoying the road more!

Regarding whether 5spd or 6 spd; bottom line is, if you beat on your tranny, IT WILL BREAK!

I recently worked with 4 other buddies to replaced w/ one of the guys clutch, 5 ppl and 12 hours....its no joke! So...I choose SMG if there is one, LESS chance of broken clutch/tranny.........
