NEED HELP! I am having a whinning sound from the car under load.

it does not do it if you just rev the motor. it only happens when your in gear under load. you can be in gear and off the throttle, and it wont do it. if you are coasting and shift to nuetral it will do it also. a friend of mine thinks that the fluid may be low. i am taking it back to the shop in the morning, just wanted alittle info before i went. i just had the clutch replaced with an ACT 2600 w/ street disc and had new fluid put in. anyone else ever have this problem?

make sure there is the right fluids in there.could sound like the TC is going.if the TC goes, you'll hear it.piercing sound kinda in gears, and grinding noise.
again, check the fluid, and make sure the shops but in the right stuff.i had a shop do my clutch install also, and put in the wrong fluid in the TC,and then the TC went out

Yeah, definately check your owners manual for proper fluids. Even some dealers put the transmission fluid in the transfer case by mistake. If this happens, you have about 2 tanks of gas before your TC goes poof.

One So Cal dealer did this to 1/2 dozen evos then went out of business last year.

BTW, once it starts howling there's not much you can do. You'll know for sure if you hear a whine with the car in neutral on decel. It won't go away until you stop.

wrong fluid. they probably put same fluid in both the t-case and tranny,

that or your t-case is dying due to your launches with act clutch?

checked the fluid in the TC and no shavings. they took the drive shaft off right before the rear diff and drove it, the sound wasn't as loud but i could still hear it. they are going to check the fluid in the rear diff tomorrow morning, but could still be the TC since it wasn't turning the rear diff it took some strain off the case causing it to be more quiet. anyone have any ideas?

LSD is Limited Slip Differential.

TRE is Team Rip Engineering. Do a thread search and look for posts by "Gears". That's Jon Ripple the owner of Team Rip. His specialty is the Evo TC and transmission. He sends you a box and you get your stuff back in a week or so if he's not busy. Very reasonable in pricing.

When the wrong oils go in, the transmissions and TC's come out and end up at Jon's or Sheppard racing.

If there's a silver lining, you could end up with an LSD instead of a helical differential. The LSD is what the MR and RS got iirc. It helps in curves with power on. Jon shims it for a tarmac setting.

When you take your car back to the shop, watch them drain both reservoirs and get samples of each. if they are the same, you've got a huge beef because they should have read the owners manual.

There are 2 separate oils a GL 4 for the transmission and a hypoid gear oil a GL 5, for the TC. GL 4 will wreck the TC. http://www.teamrip.com/images/EVO%20...20T-case-9.jpg

Cost with install approx $2000 - $2500

Good luck.

let' say the wrong oil was used...... is it too late for the TC? or can the proper oil be put in and everything be fine?

no, put it back on, it'll take longer for it to die.

but you could probably have it done under warranty if you know how.

i wouldn'[t drive it that much and make sure they do a test to see if the oil is the same,. All mitsu dealers could test the fluid.

and make sure you see it.

my warranty is far past void, to many upgrades to, plus the i replaced the clutch, which i am sure they will just use that against me. mitsu really pisses me off. they screwed me over when my engine harness caught on fire, due to a heat shield on my intake. aftermarket so i had to shell out $3500 for a ECU, engine harness and new MAF sensor. aye aye aye, this car is getting expensive. when do the 10's come out?

Thing is, you may get a core fee back if it's in decent shape. You'd no sooner run on a broken leg, you'd wait for it to heal.

If it whines or hums, it will just get worse. You won't feel good about getting on it.

Call Sheppard or TRE. They can tell you what you should do for sure.
