Evo clutch help~
Evo clutch help~
I went to drag strip last sunday and had about 3 good runs
, but ever since then the 1st gear slips little bit at low rpm.
But then once the car gets warmed up slipping disappears and it bites pretty strong.
The car only has 9000miles on it and I never abused it. Only 3-5 times 3000-5000rpm launch.
Anyone ever experienced this problem before?
Thanks in advance

I remembered I put almost 130K miles on my BMW 325i clutch before... and yeah I pushed evo a lilttle bit harder than BMW but only 10k out of brand new clutch?
I feel sad now...
Mine went out at 10k miles and i had like 7 launches on it. Sounds like yours is starting to go. Best start saving up for a new one. Look at the ACT clutch....amazing quality and its not overly expensive.
it may not be the clutch going out, the evo has a stiff pressure plate and this "slipping" that you feel when its cold could be due to the material being too stiff and not gripping yet. If it goes away when your car warms up , the clutch is probably ok. If it happens worse when it warms up, u need a clutch
Thanks you guys for good advice!
Can you guys recommend me a good DURABLE clutch? I heard ACT is pretty good but I'm not really sure which one I should get since they have too many different kinds. Is twin clutch set up is better than single? what is the difference?

My stock clutch started slipping at about 9500 miles, but only in 4th and 5th gears. It looked pretty worn when it was removed and also had several hotspots on the flywheel. I replaced it with a Centerforce Dual Friction clutch and matching flywheel. Now it's time to go back to the dragstrip.

I would also recommend a SS clutch line.. the 2 foot ruber one i've heard adds to the problem.
Its too late now, but for your next clutch at least.. they are cheap too.
When my new one goes out i will probably go with the ACT HD
my oem clutch lasted for more than 32k miles with multiple drag launches, slipping, etc.
OEM clutch is good, if you know what you're doing.
the only thing that could happen with the oem clutch slipping very early on a new car is:
1. driver abuse - learn how to slip your clutch right, don't ride your clutch
2. One of the most common cause - dealership test drives. all the first time drivers trying to test drive the car.
3. conjuntion to the #2, sales people don't know how to drive either. Them and the mechanics abuse them and they're no longer a good clutch anymore.
4. most unlikely cause - manufacture defect.
in conclusion, the clutch job is expensive and a big headache. If you do it right the first time, you wont have anymore problems later. that extra $200 could save you a $2000 worth of trouble, in some cases $6000.
but it should be covered under warranty, if you play your cards right.

I would also like to add that if you do really need a clutch and you get it replaced, make sure to remove the little spring loaded restrictor located inside the clutch slave cylinder. That little puppy's sole purpose is to wear your clutch out prematurely.... (actually it is there to save the drivetrain from 7k rpm clutch dumps, but if you are smart enough to never redline your engine and then drop the clutch, you don't need it) The how-to is located here http://www.evomoto.com/tech_info.php...=3_4&tech_id=4
By the way I replaced my clutch at 5k miles with the ACT HDSS and a lightweight flywheel and have not had anything but a smile on my face since. (its been about 3000 miles).
Good luck

My clutch is slipping ever since I went to the track (13k on my ride). I launched 7 times and ever since then, I can't even boost past 5 ibs. I ordered RPS street clutch, it's hefty price to pay, Evo's clutch aren't made to launch. 1500K job to make everything better,
You know, I used to be one of those guys that thought premature clutch wear was the fault of idiot drivers. However, my clutch is slipping at 13,000 miles. I have not launched this car, it is my daily driver. I did not buy the car for the drag racing value. The car handles amazingly and that's what I like about it. I called the dealership, well you know the story. So I'm going to take my car in today and I'm sure I'll get raped for it. This sucks. The funny thing is, I think it might be the pressure plate. The clutch starts slipping around 3,800 rpm and stops at 4,100.
