I've never heard of that. Maybe different model evos, like the evo 4 pistons wouldn't work in the evo 8.

i think they have 2 different turbo models in japan, but pistons shouldn't be any different.

maybe there are difference between earlier model evolution and current line up.

Default Re: Evo Piston

There are 3 differnet pistons letters ( A,B,C) You find the which one fits his car by looking on the bottom right corner of the block where the oil pan is. It will be marked

I=piston type A
II= piston type B
III= piston type C

This is true but the size difference is very small. If you are replacing pistons then you would be honing the cylinders anyway and you can adjust for the different size. And the same engine can have any combination of the 3 in it from the factory, but it is usually all the same or one hole is slightly larger.

it goes by bore size as I recall.....whoever is building your motor will be able to reorder the right one, assuming your piston wall is damaged to the point that it cannot be honed to the larger of the offered sizes

I am posting this because my motro burnt up a #4 piston and the dealer is gonna fix it...they say the B piston which my car has is on backorder for several weeks, been waiting 8 weeks already...The cylinder wall has no damage but will prob be honed anyways...so what you guys are saying is I could put one of the A or C spec pistons in there with no problems??? these are in stock everywhere...Let me know please as I am beginning to loose my head over this...
