I dont know, but it always sounds to me like he's indirectly flaming people in his posts. Oh well, I dont care. No offense lotus. I just want my EVO!

Lotus, I would think the wing makes a measurable difference at anything past 50 MPH and I'm not being a ricer for wanting the wing. I do think it has a performance value enough for me to get it. Granted it's large, but it's actualy fuctional IMO. If you look at the turbo beetles out past 2001, VW lowered the speed that the spoiler opens up from around 85MPH to 45MPH to increase stability on freeways. Take a look at the wind tunnel tests for the EVO. I read somewhere that the wing really made a difference. I'm searching for the article.

But if you are driving on the ragged edge of sanity on a two-way mountain road around blind corners, that is just stupid.
Oh come one, I'm sure you cant say you havent done this too! It's going to be VERY temping to do it with the EVO!

Don't we all!!! BTW, I LIKE THE BIG ONE ALSO. Oh, and no I try to resist the urge to drive dagerously on public roads. I get it out of my system in controlled enviornments like racetracks. Coolguy, do you participate in any motorsports events?

If you like that stuf you have to check out the ICQ/email pranks section, which is easily the funniest part of that site.

The wing only helps at speeds above 90.

I think the real reason why VW lowered the speed is so that Turbo beetle owners don't drive like maniacs past 85mph all the time just to show everyone that they bought a turbo beetle!

There's a button under that dash that you can push to raise the wing at any time and leave it permanently up. My friend has a 2000 New Beetle Turbo and that's what he told me. He knows a lot about VW so I trust what he says.

I sure the cosmetic effect was a large factor too though!

the spoiler on the evo isn't adjustable, so i'm prety positive people will have to dive past 90 to get any benefit from it, which i'm not sure how much it is anyway

Actually SuperStar....i'm not certain that it's not adjustable......look at this thread I posted in:

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...threadid=13401

Check out the pic. I'm sure others that have looked at the wing in detail can vouch for it.

I think the large wing will have much, much better resale value.
When I sell my car in a couple of years to a kid that can't afford a new one, I'm sure he will love the large wing.

Drive it like you stole it.

That's a good point about the re-sell value...I agree. That raises my other question. Can I buy the large one and detach the dam thing whenver i want? or by a mechanic for not a lot of money and put the smaller one on? During the winter when the roads are snowy, this will be my only car and I don't want to have the big wing on if I don't need to. SO i'd get it if I could detach it. Any word on this would be GREAT. Blacklotus you would know better then me since you've seen it in person, but i would think the mitsubishi people would have jumped on the opportunity to say it was adjustable if it was.....or mention it like in the manin page of this website when they point to the different parts of the car (like the wing), and describe its functions. we'll just have to see!! again any word on being able to detach the whole thing or how much it would cost please let me know!!!!! taht would solve my problems completely

Dont you think you're going a little overboard by wanting to detach the large one and attach the small one whenever you dont feel like it?

I've seen several EVO 8's in person and I think the wing looks great. However, there's nothing on the wing that would make me think it's detachable.

My advice is to just get the small one if you're afraid the large one will be too loud for your taste. Simple as that.

haha i might, but i'd still do it....wen i'm at troy for college i don't need or want a huge wing in the back when the roads are ice. but during the summer i think it'd look hot so i'd get it if it would attach on

Go with the carbon fiber wing!! That's why I love this car so much, it already has everything you'll possibly need for performance... Now the performance just needs to be woken up even more....
