cam installed...getting backfire

Hey all,

I just installed GSC 272/272 cams with no tune yet. The timing seems right and i think i put everything back correctly, but i seem to be getting a nice pop sound from backfire every few minutes... Is this normal since I dont have a tune? Also the engine seems to shake more than before...I checked all the bolts to make sure it was ok. Is that also normal to? Thanks.

its normal, its called lope. Its when you have over-lap of the intake and exhaust valves thats causes the lope. Dont worry about it as it is completely normal with cams.

it shouldn't back fire thats for sure. Are you shure you put the CAS sensor back in with the correct mark facing up on the trigger? On true TDC I think the thin slot faces up.

I figured out the problem with the major backfire and my engine shaking alot. Of all things, I put the spark plug covers on backwards. I changed it around and its much better. No more backfire. The engine also doesn't shake weird anymore either.

The idle is lopey though and it is setting off my check engine light. I'm sure a good tune will smooth it out and make the check engine light go away.

The install was pretty easy. The only part that was a pain was trying to make the tensioner tool. I ended up having to order one because the ones I made didn't work. So most of the time I spent waiting for that tool to come in.

Other problem I ran into was I over tightened one of the valve cover bolts and ended up breaking it. So now I have to figure out how to get half a bolt out of my block.
