Question Shifter pops out of 1st

Hopefully someone can help me out with this. Every now and then under not-so-hard acceleration in 1st gear, the shifter "pops" out of first gear as I start to shift into 2nd. It only happens on random occasions, and I can't replicate the conditions to make it happen on purpose, it just does it every once in a while. Anyone have any idea what this could be? I have a 2005 MR with around 5000 miles on it.

It happens to me too but only when hitting higher RPMs and you don't even need to be at WOT ... nothing to worry about.

If his synchro was going out he should hear grinding when he shifts .... for me its more like assisted shifting, I guess it could be because of the high rpms in the tranny and the fluid pressure building up due to heat, I might be completely off ...

has nothing to do with synchros. you are likely a little late getting the clutch in, or a little early shifting to second. This is not really a big deal. Essentially you are partially pulling the car in to neutral without the clutch. In the short term it will have no real adverse effect, but I would work on the timing a bit to prevent premature wear of the dogs that engage the gears. I had a similar situation with this car until I got used to the engagement point of the clutch, (it's at a different place in the travel than I was used to). Good Luck.

Mine does the same thing too. Must be something with the MR 6 spd. I never thought twice about it. My 3rd gen Eclipse I had a couple years back did that too. Never had tranny probs. with it.

that is not very good advice. I suggest reading up and having some idea of what goes on with a car before giving technical advice.

Mines done this maybe once, but that's it. Have 6000 miles and no problems.

Thumbs up

Thanks for the help fellas. I guess for now I won't worry about it and see if it's a timing issue... i'll pay a little more attention to my shifts. As for the amount of miles I have on the MR already, i know, it's a ton, but I've been travelling from Philly to DC and back for work every week, so that shiz really adds up quick!

I didn't hear any mention about the transmission oil being used or
if it has ever been changed.
