Unhappy Time for a heart attack?

Ok. About 3 weeks ago I performed my first oil change on my Evo. Fairly uneventful. took about 30 minutes. checked my oil and it was spot on. checked a few days later for any consumption or depletion from the filter and no issues. today I checked my oil and its about this far over the full line ---> ::: Umm, I don't know what the hell happened. I was on a fairly flat surface when I measured it both times (today was measured on a slight incline). I haven't noticed any unusual sounds from the engine and have put about 1400 miles on it since the change. should I be as paranoid as I am about this? I am changing it again asap. I'm freaking out. should I be freaking out?

When you just checked it, was the engine hot? Too much oil in the crankcase is not a good thing but if it was at the correct level a few days ago, I'm not sure why it would have risen suddenly. Check it again after it cools off completely.

Engine was about two hours cold when I last checked. I maybe added 4.5 quarts? I'm **** when I change my oil, so I usually add-check-add-check instead of dumping the recommended amount then checking. This is bizarre because I've done dozens of oil changes before with my other vehicles. Frustrated.

The volume expands when it get hot ... this is normal physics ... that is why there is a min and max reading on the dipstick ... min when cold and max when hot ... relax a little bit of extra oil won't kill it but don't over fill it again ...

Yep. Subarus even have a mark higher up on the dipstick to reflect expansion. These things run very hot.

I put 5 bottles in whenever I change my oil and I've had no problems.

I just checked my used bottles (I keep them around to know my quantity) 4.35Qts including filter prefill. I think I overreacted. My avatar is very appropriate sometimes. Sorry, I just love this frigging car too much. In through the nose, out through the mouth...

No way you should see that kind of fluctuation between cold and hot temps.

Exciting News,

You should be right below the top tick mark on most occassions, a little higher is better than a little lower. You should be fine. 4.35 inc. filter is about spot on, I usually go 4.5 solid inc. filter. Did you change it when it was cold or hot?
