a few ATP GT3071R questions
Hey everyone, I recently bought a 2003 Evo 8. After a lot of research I'm looking at installing the ATP GT3071R turbo kit but I came up with some questions. Right now my Evo is completely stock and I'm shooting for over 350 whp. According to ATP, this setup will make 375 whp with fuel injectors, a fuel pump, and a nice free-flowing 3" exhaust.
First of all... I live in California, does anyone know if this kit is 50 state legal?
Is there anyone out there with this setup that can back up these whp numbers?
ATP also says they make this whp on "modest boost" ... does anyone have actual PSI numbers?
Would I also need to install a boost controller...or something to compliment the ECU like the AEM plug and play EMS?
Can the rest of the car handle that much whp and torque or will I need to modify the clutch/drivetrain?
Thanks for the help
Jason

with mods you listed i dont think you would get that power on 91 octane.
you would get around 310-340. One you add boost controler and cams, and put stuff then yes.
Do research on here there many posts about this.
Good luck.

they used AEM i believe and race gas. On 91 you'll need alcohol injection most likely to achieve those numbers. but then again you can just buy cams, front mount and alcohol and make around 370 whp on the stock turbo

As far as 50 state legal, the ATP isn't going to look stock. Certainly not like a WR. Injectors aren't much of an issue from an emissions standpoint since you can easily scale 680s or 720s using a flash and still idle well and cleanly.
Well there are alot of people out there that will tell you the atp kit isn't the best one, and I agree. I own one. But my opinion is that for the money, I am overall pleased, not excited, but pleased with my purchase.
The kit is a little laggy up to 1 bar, but past that the spool up to 1.6/7 bar is unreal. For the breakin period, I was running a .9 bar, and was very upset with the response of the kit. After 500 miles, I switched to 1.5 bar springs, and damn it really kicked in.
I have measured this up against a stocker, and the stock evo pulls away... at first, but then I start realn him in. After going through a gear, the next gear spools up just as fast as the stock turbo, but the power is definately noticable.
All in all, it isn't a bad kit, but here is the kicker, don't buy it! I know this is a shocker, since I have some small praises for it, but don't waste your time with it. I have to now, because I am stuck with it, but rest assured, this kit is going bye bye real soon!! I just had to waste 2k on it to find out the hard way!
I am still doing some street tuning to get my afrs in check, but I will be doing a complete write up with before and after hp/tq numbers. The only difference will be the atp kit. Just for reference, I started with 323hp/333tq before the install, and 'feel' as though I have only gained a modest 30hp and even less on the tq.

Okay... after looking around I've realized the Vishnu stage one "v390" package should put me around 350 whp without messing with the stock turbo. Does anyone have dyno numbers for the stage one "v390" at the wheels? Plus I live in California... could I pass smog with just a flash?
On a site note... anyone know what the stock Enkei wheels from the 2003 Evo 8 weigh? I'm thinking of some aftermarket wheels but I need to know the weight of the stock wheels to consider performance implications.
