Oh, and yeah, the thin wall tubular piece was a prototype mock-up that was never run on any car. I raised concern about that in the Stage II thread in the Vishnu forum, and it was answered promptly and clearly that the production stage II kits will include cast adaptors.

Currently, the adaptors/collars are made of 321 stainless, and are not cast.

I'm completely used to the various tuners going after each other. Everyone should go find some way to innoculate themselves with a vendor basching vaccine. It just doesn't bug me any more. It is simply part of the landscape here. Buschur Racing and Vishnu have both made plenty of mistakes. Generally, DBs mistakes are a result of bringing products to market and then they don't perform as hoped (BR500 non-bb turbo kit made power but was unresponsive, faulty alky kits). Vishnu's mistakes tend to revolve around talking about bringing products to market and then not being actually able to produce the product in great enough numbers to actually bring the product fully to market (Intercooler, rear sway bar, Ohin coilover revalving). I went with Vishnu primarily because of the superiority of their engine management solution (Xede) and Shiv's tuning ability.

This I disagree with Smog, all too often we get "comfortable" with something (in this case, behavior) that shouldn't be practiced. This is getting all too common in the professional world, and it's not something I'm going to "get used to".

I agree if you think the behavior is bad online you should know whose name comes up in every corner of the aftermarket

I guess thats the standard? IIRC noones gotten the 8 into the 7s, why? Noones put 100K into a 4G63 attached to a tubeframe. Smog was being diplomatic unlike yourself.

Well, if I had 100k to dump into a car I'm sure I could "accomplish" a lot too.

If Smog is a Vishnu cheerleader, does that make you a Buschur?

Actually I'd call it the "let's keep it real" camp.

FWIW, I'm not an assmunch for ANY tuner. I've just been a participant and observer in these forums since September 2003.

With the release of this contraption you call an adapter I now see why you wanted to just pop into our thread about our turbo kits a few weeks ago and place doubt about how our wastegate was positioned.

Shiv, you are a real piece of work.

Dave,
The comments I made about wastegate placement are as true as true can get. I don't know how you can dismiss them as just me trying to give you a hard time. Talk to any turbo engineer about the idea of plumbing the wastegate into just one runner. It doesn't take much personal experience of using such design to know that such a set up can only bypass 25% of the exhaust flow which becomes a problem when you need to bypass more than that. Not to mention the exhaust backpressure/temp delta between that cylinder and the others. Of course, you can dismiss these comments as more of my "mumbo jumbo." It is certainly your perrogative to do so. Heck, you might even truly believe it that I'm talking nonsense. I just find it odd that, despite after all the change-of-hearts you have made in the past with regards to Garret BB turbos (you used to not recommend them), you are so unwilling to even consider re-evaluting other issues. Especially ones that are so well documented as fact in technical journals and application guides. Not to mention clearly illustrated in every OE turbo or seroius race engine application on the road or racetrack, around the world. I know it usually takes you a little while to change your opinion on things. Like you did with stand-alones a while back, dynos just recently and whatever else you have flip-flopped on when finally presented with overwhelming proof that even you couldn't ignore or disregard as "mumbo jumbo."

As for me being a "piece of work", that's fine with me. Thank you for the feedback. As for the turbo adapter "stinking" and being "crack-prone" based upon what you've seen on an on-line picture, that's your expert opinion and I honestly thank you for it. Just like when the hangers on your exhaust fell off and had to be recalled/repaired. Or the pipes rattled and rubbed and burned things. Or alchy kits failed. I'm sure you would have liked to have been warned of the flaws before releasing them to the often nonforgiving public.

But this is not an attack. We've made our fair share of mistakes to. As Smogrunner pointed out, we often announce things that we can't produce in sufficient quantity or at the initially projected price or in the projected timeframe. We think/hope that we're learning from our mistakes. And I guess that is all that matters in the end.

Best Regards,
shiv

I don't think it's a big mistake, the AMS kit is less $$ than a Vishnu stage 3 setup, the AMS kit is top notch quality, and the delivery time is very good from the time you place an order. Hos stroker motor is being built by a reputable local machine shop, so I guess he jumped every tuners camp and went there instead.

As far at the AEM being a "REAL" standalone, yes it is a real standalone. Good observation. And someone would infer that you believe the Vishnu camp thinks the Xede is a standalone, it's not, I don't think it is, and I'm glad it's not. There are some people that enjoy the flexibility of a standalone, and others that are intimidated by it. I, personally, am in the latter camp, and I would venture to say Smog is as well. The addition of the new SMART technology to the Xede will allow new-to-engine-management people as myself to get a better grasp on tuning concepts prior to taking the leap to full standalone and learning lots along the way, not every Evo owner knows the advanced concepts of engine tuning that a standalone system requires.

I am defending Smog, but only doing so because what you're saying isn't entirely true. If you can't appreciate that, sorry.

A REAL standalone? Like those things I used to use/sell/tune back in the day before modern factory ECU design. Why? So I can reinvent a wheel? Albeit one that is less round, squeaky and tends to fall off every now and then?
