video here

The trans is from a 03 with 18k on it, that keeps throughing a PO300code. Could this be the noise that has been plaging our cars? This is the loudest one I've heard and it has the most play that I've see in a evo.

That is the inner hollow shaft that drives the front differential. That shaft goes all the way through the center diff and is splined into a side gear. The reason it's loose is because: it's going into splined side gear. It's fine.

Cool thanks, but that's just alot of play. So what causes the "griding" noise that goes away when you push on the clutch. Something is causing this po300 code. I think it's the vibration from the trans that the knock sensor is picking up as "knock". The car does have a reflash.

I know that the transmission has been blamed for the pesky PO300 random miss-fire code and there are several people who told me that it doesn't happened after I've rebuilt their transmission. I guess I’m impressed with the sensitivity of the knock circuit to pick up gear-knock.
