spool is slower with the the hostside.. but lower ic pipe and other mods can decerease spool time.. TME turbo is still a much better mod then the 10.5 hotside if you can get it for a good price. The hotside is essential just giving you what ever 2005 evo has, which is better but nothing out of the ordinary.
After I installed my 10.5 hotside, turbo lag was definitely more noticeable. However, WORKS updated the boost map on my P2 flash and that helped spoolup significantly. Now, the extra lag induced by the 10.5 hotside is barely noticeable.
I kept my stock exh man and o2 housing. I did port-match all the components. The porting I did was very minor. I don't think it made much difference.

I've driven Evos with both the TME and hotside. The only real difference is that the TME spools about 200 RPM sooner than just throwing on the hotside. My hotside would hit full boost by 3200 RPM and the TME at about 3000 RPM.
Also, for some reason the TME seems to make a little more power on a fully moded Evo. Your probably looking at 15 to 20 more HP. However, the midrange power on both turbos is really strong and almost identical...

Ive been running with the TME and I have no regrets at all. Noticable advantage is on the spool up. I've ran it with another EVO with exact mods... only difference is that I have the TME and he doesn't... I left him about 1-1 1/2 cars behind on 4th gear.
We both agreed that the TME spools 1k advance/faster than the stock turbo through redline. So by the time I shift... the other car still has 1k more rpm before he hits redline. (Mods: cams, tbe, injectors, safc, pump..stage 1+)
Just from my past experiences.

is the response between gears that most intrested me in the tme.. there are alot more parts then just the wheel.. its more like the shaft also and other little goodies. Its more cost effective to just buy a new one rather then trying to build one. They are going used for as little as 800
To tell you the truth, I did not notice any response difference between gears or after shifting. Both cars felt strong and the TME car had a few more supporting mods, which helped out with making more power.
Unless you really go out and drive two Evos like I did then you are speculating on a lot of things. Both setups are good with the only major difference being earlier boost and a some more power from the TME. I did not see the need to spend the extra 800 dollars for the TME turbo. I figured I would save my money and buy my aftermarket AMS 3071 kit, which equalls big power...
