trany rattle noise, please advise !!!
Just recently after syncros rebuild and installing new clutch I got really bad decel noise in 4 & 5 gears downhill. It rattles the sh.t out of the car and makes me really concerned. mitsu suppose to take it back and redo the input/output shafts.
Do you guys know what could be the problem as they said they had no idea and said all the evos make some noise
Full of BS.

The TSB refers to a rattleing noise coming from the transmission. It is bad when the A/C is on and when the clutch is pushed in it goes away. It is covered under your drivetrain warranty.
I just found out about it this morning when they told me mine was doing it. I took the car in for maint (oil/rotation/alignment) and to check the rattleing, the told me there waiting on the regional rep to approver it (prob tomorrow) then they will order the parts.
Doesn't effect driving and reverse workes fine, just makes a rattleing noise.

I just took mine in for this exact thing. They replaced the reverse idler gear and it did nothing. Quieted the noise down a bit, but it's still there.
I have another thread on a similar noise/rattle at idle. I'm convinced it's the input shaft rattling, but the dealership tech could not find a TSB about the input shaft, just the reverse idler.
Just FYI. Hopefully if enough of us take it in for this there will be a definitive TSB fixing it.

I'm still waiting on the regional rep to approve the cost. How long did it take to fix? I'm supposed to be leaving for Germany in a few weeks and don't want to waste leave time waiting.

5 days to order the parts. Same day install. In by 8, got the car at 2:30.
Of course, that's the fix that didn't help
I can see why it might though, that gear assembly would be a candidate for the rattle, it just wasn't in my particular case.

My car is in for the tranny rattle noise right now they are replacing all my bearings. Wont have it back untill probaly this friday. Let you know if it fixes the problem. My input shaft bearings were bad. Only 12K miles.
got my EVO back finally, but it's still making the same sound but not as bad...dealer says there's nothing they can do..hopefully after the parts brake in it will go away...To bad my EVO's in SC and I'm in Germany and Iraq for the next 3 years...
I have the same problem. Took it into the dealer today and they pulled out the TSB. They said if it makes the noise when the engine is cold then it is the input shaft and if it makes the noise when warm it is the reverse idler. They told me to bring it in tonight and leave it so they can listen to it when it is cold in the morning.
