Newbie question: EVO 7 & 8 parts compatibility

Hi guys, I've counting down the days until the EVO to hits the showrooms. I drove one in the UK last year and was amazed, this car rocks

My question is whether the EVO 7 tuner parts would fit the EVO 8? specifically flywheels, clutches, pistons, stroker kits, cam gears, etc.

Sorry for the newbie questions and thank you.

I tried the search engine, but didn't come up with anything. Are there certain words you recommend I search for?

I believe that the general consensus is that the "basic" Evo 7 parts will fit the Evo 8. But, I believe the parts you listed may have to be slightly modified in order to work with the Evo 8, since there has been a few detail improvements in the Evo 8's drivetrain over the 7.

Once all of the tuners get their hands on the 8, we'll know for sure.

Well I will let you know shortly. I have a Ralliart Sports ECU, intake kit, intercooler piping, and exhaust kit all from Ralliart for an EVO VII that I am going to try putting on my VIII when it arrives this month. It is basically the stage 1-3 kit from Ralliart sold in the UK. All I will need then is a boost controller to keep me happy for a bit. I hope it all fits, if not I will put it on the VII as intended.

Yes, all the performance parts for the 7 will fit the 8. They only changed small items that only affected HP output.

Rods, Pistons, Block, Flywheel, Clutch, Exhuast, Intake, I/C Piping are all the same

Well, consensus so far is that the ECU is different.. For several reasons, 1) OBD-II is a USA item, 2) No AYC/ACD, 3) Possible wiring and connector differences to prevent someone from swapping A JDM or EUDM ECU in to a USDM EVO..

What about exhaust system parts? I think Catalytic converters for the US market are different than other markets, therefore could line up differently. I think some markets may not even use cats.. So some components would require modification.. I think in general engine parts, engine accessories, electronics (Not ECU Related) interior parts, some external appearance (not front/rear fascias because of bumper components under the fascia)..

I plan on working with a local tuner shop in my area to test anything and everything to see what happens.. Within reason that is.. I'm not THAT crazy..

Well, it looks like most of the internal parts will also fit the EVO 8. I got an e-mail reply from TODA Racing:

"
Jack,

Thank you for your e-mail and interest in TODA Racing. The majority of our engine components will be compatible with the EVO 8, but we still have not confirmed compatibily of our 2.3 liter stroker kit and pistons. At this time, the following parts compatibilty has been confirmed:

-TODA Adjustable campulleys
-TODA Lightweight Flywheel
-TODA Metal Headgasket

Well I spoke with Ralliart UK yesterday and they tell me that the exhaust, in intake kits will work though the intercooler piping may not. This is due to the fact that there are some changes to the VIII FMIC. Though they can't tell me that it won't work because they don't have any cars yet. The AYC/ACD doesn't affect the ECU at all. The ACD/AYC have their own controller that obviously won't be present in the US VIII. Now OBDII could affect the use of the JDM VII ECU but that is not clear. At best it would simply disable the OBDII feature. Thus immediately getting us out of the "detuned" state that was required to pass US emmissions and back to the calibration that the JDM cars have. Read 300hp. Would make an interesting dyno test.
