I was just wondering what an external wastegate sounds like. Is it loud? Can you only hear it when you shift like a bov? Can you only hear it when the turbo is at max psi?

right as you hit full desired boost the gate will open causing your boost to stay at the desired level and not overboost. it sounds like you took your down pipe off and ran w/out it. it is loud but sounds great! ill get a clip/ movie and post it

All I can say, my car has a 44mm Tial external wastegate and it sounds LOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUDDDDDDDDDDDDD.

and ya its loud. but it sounds so good. u wont need a radio once u get an external wastgate, aftermarket BOV, and exhaust. ur car will just be making sweet musiq to ur ears

 

An external wastegate sounds like an open header.... as, really.... that's what it is.

 

sounds mean.. (cousin got one on his gti) it lots of fun when u drive by people with open windows.. downshift.. and watch the look on their faces.//

 

so will the wastegate go off bvefore your bov? or at the same time...? i have a hks and a exteernal tial 38mm(havent heard it yet) will my car be going down the road makin funny noises?lol like wategate and then a bov sound ..idk me confused

 

External wastegate's are no louder than internal wastegates.

External dump wastegates are what make them louder.

And yes, it sounds like an open header.

Wastegates simply bleed boost off from the tract to the turbine wheel.

 

It doesnt really sound like an open exhaust. It makes much more of a loud pssshhht noise going constantly when at full boost. It is on the exhaust system, not the intake system. And no, if the wastegate is open your bov will not open (Or shouldnt at least ) It is just a really loud pssssht noise. Alot of people that dont know much think it is nitrous.

 

Yes I have a couple of pictures and also this weekend Al is coming down here, so I will have a camera and will tape everything and try to post it here. On saturday I will try and see if I find how to post a video. Trust me, once you go external wastegate you wont go back, its simply amazing

 

does it recirc back into the dowbnpipe or go to vent? i think these are 2 different ways of doing it? if so..are there a differece in sounds between the 2?
