Transmission Rattle

I've had this for a while, but never worried about it too much. Just more curious than anything:

When I'm idling at a stoplight, I can usually hear a rattle or chatter when the car is in neutral and the clutch "released", that is engaged to flywheel without being in gear (foot off the pedal).

When I depress the clutch pedal, the noise goes away.

I don't have any drivability issues, just wondering what this might be and whether or not to have it checked out.

Thanks,
AC

Thanks. I did a more thorough search and it turns out most of my car's noises are normal.

Yeah!

the noise is your throw out bearing.

I have the same noise, much louder with the A/C on. So this is a normal noise from the throw out bearing, or does it mean something is wrong with the bearing?

Throw out bearing, not normal, but nothing severe or worth fixing is wrong. I've noticed it being louder with the A/C on too... dunno why that is, maybe it's the fan? But the one rattle is definitly the TOB. You'll find what was said above is totally true, most of the car noises are normal.

On the stock clutch I did not notice it that much but after changing over to the ACT I can definitely hear it at idle and during deceleration and it does get worst when the AC is on. Don't know if it was the install.

A light weight flywheel generally comes with a warning that you may get noises at idle. Gears are constantly meshed and not under load so they can rattle. With the clutch pressed in, trans is disconnected so shafts are not turning so nothing to cause rattle. Heavier stock flywheel smooth's the vibration out more than a light one due to inertial forces being higher. I have the exedy flywheel and noises seems normal. Heavier oil will help but will make it harder to shift. Possible also that bearings are failing in trans. But nothing to be done unless it gets worse.
