Question Whine when engaging 1st gear?

At the Oscoda ProSolo a couple months ago I noticed a whining in 1st gear under decel after a couple full throttle launches. A few passes later I broke a rear axle, hub, and suspension upright. Anyway I finally got the car together and the whining is still present.

Here are the symptoms: loud whining when engaging 1st gear with clutch disengaged and the car stationary. The same whining is present while decelerating in 1st. No whining under acceleration in any gear.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
Eric

Normally I would suspect internal transmission parts with a whining sound. However, it whines loud with first gear engaged, the clutch disengaged, and the car stationary.... under this condition there are no parts moving inside the transmisison or transfer case....

Thanks for the responses guys.... I'll pull the transmission tonight to check it out. Looks like I'll be getting a dogbox sooner than expected....

Well I have the transmisison apart... no broken gear teeth and nothing obviously broken. Any more ideas?

Have the gears been wet-Magnafluxed or just inspected with the eye?

Have the gear wear patterns been inspected properly?
