the flex section will allow for expansion and contraction of material, flex of the motor, exhaust etc. and is used to provide a longer life of the part in most cases.

feel free to pm me with any questions as we use these in all of our downpipes.

A flex section can and most likely will LEAK......

the majority of downpipes for EVO's are made without a flex section......which i'm sure is for good reason.

o stock they have none. i never looked under car as you can tell. and also if they didnt make them with it then im sure they are not needed as much as you think.and i would also thing with no flex it would flow a lot nicer. and now big question whats the big diff with all this dp i mean they all seems to have same bend and this and that why one get more power. lol i dont get this. like is it just more or less the copeny you like more?

The EVO stock uses a donut gasket and a flange with spring bolts, this acts like a flex section. The downpipe is able to "rock" on this donut gasket and spring bolts.

The EVO has motor mounts that are made for comfort, they are way to soft and allow the engine to move around too much. The DSM's did the same thing.

We build/built 2.5" exhausts for the DSM's for years and used different type of flex sections in them. We have a very high quality flex section now that will last and not leak. Have some out there on the roads that are close to 10 years old now.

We also build/built a 3" downpipe for the DSM's (and EVO's of course) that use no flex. I have some of those out there that are 10 years old too.

The EVO we decided not to use a flex section. We have built a couple custom for guys that had to have them but as a rule we do not use them. It has been 3 years now and we haven't had one break from the lack of the flex. It does flow better without a flex.

The clearance under the EVO for a 3" downpipe is very tight as it is. Adding a flex to the system is tough, as the ones we use are about 3.75" outside dimensions and there just isn't room for it.

We have our first set of new motor mounts done for the EVO. These will eliminate the need for a flex or donut gasket and any worries. Also will save the intercooler couplings and make for smoother shifts.
