Question Stock clutch differences

What are the differences between the stock Evo 7, stock Evo 8 and stock Evo 8 MR clutches?

What are the pros and cons of installing an Evo 8 MR clutch in my Evo 7?

I don’t think there’s much difference at all. I know that for rally homologation purposes there is a difference because you are not allowed to use the EVO8 clutch in an EVO7 Grp.N rally car. I think it might be a different number of “fingers” on the cover or something. Then there’s supposedly some difference in the 6-speed cars, I think it’s the disc that has a different centre.

If you like to use an organic disc, an up-rated cover together with a stock disc works fine. I used the Ralliart EVO8 clutch cover RA981846K1 together with a stock EVO8 disc and my stock EVO7 flywheel and it held up very nice and driveability was like stock with just a slightly heavier pedal.

Cheers,

thanks, Where Did you buy the Ralliart Cover?

I think that the Evo 7 and Evo 8 have the same disc and flywheel.

Got it straight from japan but most Mitsu dealers should be able to order it I guess. Disk and flywheel should be the same, at least they are interchangable.

Flywheel is the same on all of them.
Disc is the same on Evo 7 and 8, but slightly different on MR (for noise reduction).
Evo 8 and MR use same pressure plate
Evo 7 pressure plate has different geometry than Evo 7 and MR.
Evo 7 pressure plate is about 2450-2600lbs (we've tested two), while the Evo 8 is 2200lbs.
Ralliart Evo 8 tests about 2700lbs and will work in Evo 7 but geometry is different so the pedal will be unnecessarily stiff. You feel like you are getting a lot more clamp load than you really are.
Evo 7 pressure plate will not work in Evo 8. Not enough travel to make up for different geometry.

...and of course we have ACT parts for all of them (shameless plug).
