Messing around with venting

So a friend and I were messing around with my car, trying to vent it with different bov's. First we fully vented a greddy type s bov with the single spring mod and it was loud as hell. The rpm's dipped a little, but not too bad. It was still drivable. We took the type s off and put on a greddy type rs without the single spring mod. In my opinion, the rs sounds better than the s. We had it fully vented and we took it for a test drive. We experienced no dipping or stumbling problems. Granted this was only on a 5 minute test drive, but everything was working fine. I might keep it vented for a little while to see how it works out. I guess i just got one of the evos without a picky MAF. Ill update the thread after I try driving around for a while.

I read a post not too long ago by MalibuJack, I think is his name. He said that with our cars if you're venting you're either stalling out or you're getting compressor surge. Supposedly there's no in between. Too tight and you're surging, too loose and you're stalling.

That's the whole point... You don't think you're having issues, but trust me, you are.

VTA on MAF is dumb. Even if your car doesn't stall you are still losing metered air, running rich between shifts, confusing your ECU, etc. Vent it back or get a MAP conversion if you want to keep your car tuned properly.

As for compressor surge, that only happens if your spring is too stiff, and it wouldn't matter if it was VTA or not. MalibuJack is pretty knowledgeable so you must be mis-quoting him or taking what he said out of context or something. I'm sure he knows this.

when your setup like me, you can really tell what valves are good and which ones are bad... its amazing how much a 3 inch intake pipe will resonate flutter generated by a bov not set right...

A little off topic, but dafarmer69 have you tried the JDM MR one yet? I absolutely love mine, holds boost a lot stronger than my stock one did.

As long as it sounds better, that's all that matters. It doesn't matter that you have no performance gain and unmetered air as long as it sounds good.

Who ever said I was doing it for the sound? We just wanted to play around because his car is extremely picky and stutters even when the bov is recirculated. Im going back to recirculating it tonight to prevent anything that may happen. It was just fun to mess around with it and see the difference between his car and mine.

Well, i just got back from a fairly long drive with the bov vta and everything went fine. It drove just as well as when it was recirculated. It did get kind of annoying after a little while because it was loud as hell.
