Notchy Shifting on 05

My shifting is a little notchy on slow, low RPM shifts. Its been like this since new and so far I have done SS clutch line, kartboys shorft shifter & shifter bushing(all), removed restrictor, redline oil and adjusted clutch pedal to try to make it better but it really hasn't got better on slow, low RPM shifts. Fast, high RPMs shifts are the best I've ever felt (and I've had shoft shifter/bushings in most of my other cars). Next, I was think of changing to BG syncrooxxxx (dont know exactly what its called or spelled). Like i said fast shift are wonderful, just slow/low RPM shifts are little notchy. So does anyone think that switching to BG synchromxxxx (don't know exact name) will help? any input

ps never grinds , just a notchy feel

Redline does not work with the EVO tranny. You need to use either Penzoil syncromesh or BG Syncroshift. I had the same problem with my brand new 05 EVO. I switched to Penzoil and the problem is 70% solved. Also, you need to press the clutch pedal all the way in and be deliberate with your shifts in the EVO. that is what I have noticed in the 500 miles that I have driven the car so far.

BG synchroshift is considered top of the line tranny fluid for the evo. It should help compared to redline.

on my 04: by adding the SS clutch line, shifter bushing(all), removed restrictor,
made the shifting more notchy than it was before.

before i added all this ^^ the shifting was notchy up to 1500 miles. then it smoothed out. but i wanted to keep it notchy so i added the above parts.

First off...

A short shift kit is going to INCREASE the effort needed to shift. You're shortening the lever therefore requiring more force to move.

I would try getting a counter weight shift knob. I have the Greddy and it made shifting much smoother. The increased weight will help.

My tranny is the same way...slightly notchy on low rpm shifts. At first it kinda annoyed my, then I got used to it, now I love it. Persoanlly, I dont want a shifter that isnt notchy....feels too much like a video game shifter.

People swear by trans fluids like synchromesh, etc. However, whenever you have a trans fluid, there is a tradeoff between smooth synchro engagement and gear wear. If you go for a slippery fluid like synchromesh or synchroshift, you might get smoother shifts, but at the potential cost of gear life. If that sounds like something your interested in, go ahead, but for me, no thanks, I'll stick with stock fluids.

Exactly. More people should realize this. However, Im sure the people who have bad synchros after using BG found out the hard way.

thanks for all the input.
I know that a short shifter requires more effort, thats not what I said is wrong.
It was notchy before the short shifter, was thinking bout a new knob but I like the stock knob, feel & looks, just dont like that it dont weigh much. Anyways, so BG sychromesh (whatever its called) is a good next step or not? when I had my WRX, shifting was a little notchy , then I put in Redline oil and it was all good.

I mean, a lot of people use BG and Pennzoil for their trannies and like it. I however, after driving notchy T-56 cars such as the corvette, viper, 03/04 cobra, actually prefer that feeling over something that just sort of slides into place with no effort or feedback.

If you want a smoother shift, then go for it. Your trans should be OK, but keep in mind, this is not the fluid Mitsu recommends for a reason...
