Whiterabbit: 91octane and C16 Results

We just finished tuning a car with a White Rabbit on it. First one I've had the chance to tune up, the results were pretty good. Car is a 2005 EVO GSR.

91 Octane: 22PSI, 11:1 AFR
C16: 28-24PSI, 12.3:1 AFR

Mods:
AEM EMS
Combo Cams
Denso 720
PWR FMIC w/ XS Piping
Turboback
TXS BC

I thinkt the 91 octane results are great. This is a real everyday bulletproof map - not a one-time big number pull. The torque is great, but most impressive is the area under the curve. Notice the minimal HP and torque drop - (looks more like an STI graph than an Evo )

The C16 results... meh. I think there is a lot more in it, but the turbo would not make more than 28psi peak and rapidly fell to 24psi. 400whp at 24psi isn't too bad in my book. IIRC, this WR DOES NOT HAVE THE HIGH PRESSURE WASTEGATE ACTUATOR. If we could have hit 30psi and held to 27 or so, I think the results would have been much better.

Anyway, just something to look at. I think this is a nice upgrade over the stocker - but it's not a bolt-on GT35R (not that we all didn't know that).

Regards,

Dan

Edit: I was wrong about the turbo, it doesn't have the high pressure actuator. Looks like me may be trying that soon.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the stocker won't hold power like that in the higher RPMs, right?

The stock turbo can make the power but cannot hold it like the white rabbit.

What are "Combo Cams"? Do you mean HKS 264/272?

I don't recall seeing many 91 octane cars pulling a solid 350 whp on the stock turbo.

Could you please post up your dynograph of a stock turbo making 400awhp at 7000RPM please?

Several individuals have posted dyno charts here demonstrating peaks of 400+whp with the stock turbo. That point isn't worth arguing. The WR is capable of delivering a nominal degree greater average power, and I see no argument there either.

The argument is if the nominal improvement is worth the asking price, and that is a personal decision. My initial feelings are that Buschur's 20G offering with Ti wheel may be a slightly better proposition at that price point, but the jury is still out.

Aw...leave him alone. He was just trying to make sure that this WR thread had at least one hater post since that's an EvoM rule for all posts with white rabbit in the title.

How about the SAE corrected version? Good job though nonetheless.

All kidding aside, like the other gentlemen said, I am tired of the response by the same old people in every WR thread saying that the "the stock turbo can do that". Granted there can be limited exceptions but overall, the answer is no. It makes more power over a broader powerband whereas the stock turbo normally dies off.

The White Rabbit is, I think we can all agree, better than the stock turbo; but is it $1,000 + time and energy to install it better?

If I were custom fabricating a kit for some car (not an Evo) and was choosing between buying the stock Evo turbo or buying the White Rabbit, I would buy the White Rabbit. But, if I already had an Evo turbo, I wouldn't shell out more than a grand for the kind of gains the WR would give.

Of course, that's a personal choice thing; and I have nothing against people who think it's worth the cost.

That's not my dyno but I do think that is the stock baseline on that car.

Now as to what mike 99GSK is saying I agree. I think th WR is a better performer all accross the board but to me it isn't worth the money to upgrade.
