Can you tap a wideband sensor into the exhaust or does a bung have to be welded?

for reading accuracy weld it on the downpipe. Before you pull it off, mark a spot where to put it, or else you'll regret it later (trust me on this one)
Best spot is on the first elbow.

Well, you probably don't want to weld the sensor to the downpipe. Instead, weld a bung into the exhaust, the screw sensor into it. You can always put a plug in the bung if you don't feel like having the sensor in all the time.

there is a gromet up under the ash tray area, makes a good place to mount the bung. the wires can be out of sight.
what system will you be going with?

I have had bungs welded on other cars without removing the pipe, I can't remember, but the driveline might be in the way on an evo

i think im going with the new innovative gauge w/ sensor. I was thinking about putting it in the test pipe its easy to take off if needed to get it welded in.

If you're running catless, you can probably just put it at the end of the tail pipe with a
a clip or something.

I don't think there'd be any way to weld a bung in without removing the chosen exhaust section. The bosch sesnor that Innovate! uses should be mounted above the horizen (preferrably at 12 oclock). There's noy way you're going to do that with the the exhaust in place.

all true, but you shouldn't have any trouble with the install if you keep it between 9 and 3 oclock. it's hard to find a spot where there is head room for 12 oclock. all any o2 sensor needs is to be kept from condensation being flowed over it.
the tailpipe insert is a neat idea for a temporary install.

I've got my two sensors (LC-1 & AEm UEGO) welded to the downpipe in the area where the downpipe crosses under the oil pan. There's plenty of room in that area and if you're creative you can fabricate a bracket and bolt it to the back of the engine block to hold the LC-1 controller.

As far as whether or not you'll have to remove your downpipe, that all depends on where you choose to mount the sensor and how good your welder is.

Alot of guys mount their WBO2 sensor in the stock front location and use one of the analog outputs to emulate a narrow band sensor output. In fact the Innovative unit comes preconfigured with one of the analog outputs to match the voltage output of a narrowband sensor.

BTW, the Innovative LC-1/XD-1 combo is kick ***.
