Does new BOV give more power?

By just replacing my BOV with an aftermarket one will I actually gain anything. I have a cat back on order and a replacement air filter on order. I am getting flashed this weekend. With those things combined will a new BOV be of any help?
Thanks Dean

A new BOV will only be useful if your stock one is currently leaking boost. The new one won't really add any power directly, but it will help down the road whenever you get a MBC and turn up the boost. The stocker isnt' good for holding more than 20psi, if that. Just make sure you get a recirculating BOV, not a VTA one. Too many problems with VTA. The best two are the MR DV and the Forge.

BOV will not add any power, just sound better and hold boost better, but not add.

I hope you all see the monster that has been created. This is his _4th_ thread started that asks a completely mundane question that has been answered a trillion times. This is what happens when you don't make people search and you just tell them the answer like this is some pre-school class where we spoon-feed everyone.

AC556k, please, for the love of God, USE THE SEARCH TOOL. You will find far, FAR more information regarding this question than the little bit that these guys have told you. You will learn about the stock BOV, you will learn about aftermarket BOVs, you will learn that it does add power, but then you will understand WHY it adds power, you will understand when it adds power and when it doesn't, you will understand when to get one and when not to, and you will understand which ones you should get and which ones you shouldn't.

I'm begging you..........PLEASE SEARCH and stop asking these unbelievably basic questions.

100% agree!
I have been on this site for less then a year, and have found all the info I needed just by searching. If your lazy or dumb pick up the phone and call one of the Tuner shops that support this site.

What bdking57 is saying (I'll paraphrase) is that if you'd search on BOVs, you'd learn that a BOV technically is something that vents to atmosphere (VTA), whereas a diverter valve (DV) recirculates the air back into the MAF pipe, thus ensuring there is no lost air that the MAF has already read. Therefore, with a BOV (VTA), you will run rich between shifts when that air gets purged...

When I changed from stock bov to Forge RS bov, I gained like 10 WHP.
I found out that my stock bov starts leak at 18 psi. and there is constant small leak on any low boost level. you can find out if you do pressure test your bov. Stock bov is not tightly sealed like after market bov. That is why you get smooth operation. and after market BOV will never be smooth as stock unless it does leak like stock bov. If you are boosting more than 20 psi, BOV is definite buy!

What you see it holding on your boost gauge is not the same as what the turbo is actually producing. The stockers ALWAYS leak; there's no way around it. You don't see a BOV leak by looking at your boost gauge. You see it by doing a pressure test and finding that it opens at 13psi. If you've already done a pressure test and saw that it didn't begin to open until 21psi, then I stand corrected.

What happens is the stocker is always leaking, but your MBC is telling the turbo to produce 21psi, so in order to maintain 21psi, it pushes out MORE than 21psi to overcome the leaking boost. In the end, you're blowing hot air, because the turbo is being forced to produce far more boost than is efficient on pump gas, when you could be producing 21psi and holding 21psi with a proper BOV like the JDM MR DV.
