Problems

I need some help... On saturday I was going to the track, on my way there the car started making a ticking noise. It was making the noise whenever I was on the gas. I get to the track and the ticking noise is real loud and now it is at idle too. So I just start heading home, get about half way home and the ticking noise turned into a loud cluncking/ticking noise! I was hoping that it would be something under the valve cover, cause that is where the noise was coming from, but its not I pulled the valve cover off and everything looks good!

What do ya'll think it is?

If it is internals I dont wanna go with the stroker kit I would like to buid the 2.0 But my ? is what is involved in building the 2.0 I know I'll need the pistons and rods, but what else?

Thanks guys
Dustin

if you hear a ticking/rattle thats getting worse, I would stop driving and give your car a through once over. I had a similar event in a past car, and it turned out to be a rod starting to knock. Luckly I pulled the pan and was able to replace the bearings and the con rod bolts before it made "an expensive noise".

I had the same exprience with my Evo. Turned out to be a spun rod bearing. Dealer replaced my engine under warranty.

sounds like a rod bearing issue to me if everything looks good up top.

Sounds silly, but is your oil level ok?

dude , I think I have the same problem but it certainly goes away when I'm driving. I only seem to hear that little clicking at idle. I changed out my PCV valve and the problem went away for a while but I believe theres a little spring inside the pcv valve that is loud as hell sometimes that's making that noise. dont go trippin over rod bearings, those sound horrible when you rev and youll notice.

On DSM a common timing belt related issue which causes a very similar noise is a failing tensioner. The belt slaps until the engine speed increases.
