another "ricer" hks bov thread

as everyone knows or has been told the hks ss bov is not the best bov to use on a evo at VTA.....well i have talked to a couple people with mr's and this bov vented and they have absolutely no problems and its running fine....what would be the difference between the regular evo vs. evo to where the hks would work fine on the mr? also regarding using the hks bov VTA on a regular evo is the problem something a dynoflash could fix?

must be converted to MAP, MAF will not work with VTA, only way to do it right now is to get a EMS. Thats an expensive mod for sound IMO!

It doesn't; they are uninformed. They think just because their idle and driveability is not affected that it means it's "fine." I can't count how many times I've heard or read people say that their car runs "fine" with a VTA BOV all the while not realizing the rich condition between shifts and the induced compressor surge as a result. The difference with 05s is that they do not display the symptoms of improper venting as much as 03/04s.

Again, if you would ever search instead of asking the same old questions over and over, it would really help:

mr is the same vehicle, same turbo, ecu, yada, yada, yada. So im not sure why people would say it runs fine. I had my stock BOV VTA just for the hell of it to see what would happen. It didn't ever stall, but IDLE RPMS varied, would hold 900, then drop to 500 for a sec and shoot up to 1200 and settle again at 900. It also was a little "goofy" between shifts. I guess if you call that fine, then ok. Think about it like this, The ECU sees this air, then accomidateds with fuel, but because vacuum pulls the BOV open, and an idle motor pulls vacuum, the air doesn't make it to the engine and too much fuel is the result, and you have a very rich evo. Now, when at boost, the BOV is closed and car runs fine, but when you shift, BOV opens, loses air, again rich. Its the same way on every evo unless they have a EMS or a blow through MAF.
