My roller rockers went bad? help.

Ok so I heard a ticking sound in my head, so I took it to a shop. Im no head expert so I just want to see if I can maybe get a second opinion. They told me that the 4 roller rockers went bad. The bearings were flattened. Then he told me that roller rockers just never go bad so they have to replace the lifters to, the cause of the problem. with all that said they wanted to replace all the roller rockers ($339.02) and the lifters ($250) and labor ($400).

Does this sound accurate?

Never heard of a flat roller rocker. Damaged yes. I would like some pics of it posted if they give you the damaged parts back. Also if you had enough wear to flatten the roller i think it would also wipe that cam lobe. Sounds fishy

No

The only way to see if it is accurate would be to look at the yourself for proof

What are your mods?

Is it a slight ticking noise (normal), or a tapping noise (not quite normal)?

should be a good install then. I would say you have one or a couple colapsed lifters. Not rockers. Easy fix remove cams find the problem lifter and replace. alittle more involved. Normally intake side. It sounds like a tapping sound right?

Yea it was defintly a tapping sound. but on the way to drop the car off it got worse, like a screeching noise followed by a stall out.

I just got word that none of the lifters are damaged, but the car was low on oil and they should replace them? Should I go ahead and get all 32 lifters and 32 rocker arms replaced since it was low on oil or should I just replace the damaged roller rockers and not the lifters?

hmmm......unless you have the super secret V8 EVO, then you dont have 32 rockers or 32 lifters. You have 16 rockers and 16 lifters. Just because the motor went a lil low on oil doesnt mean the lifters are shot. I would try filling up the motor with oil and going thru the tech manual for the proceedure to resolve the lifter tick, try that first before you start dumping money into a repair that you might not need. First these guys who looked at your car told you they were bent and had to be replaced, now they say they arent bent and still need to be replaced. Sounds like they just want your money.
