Anyone have experince with Nitromethane?
Anyone have experince with Nitromethane?
I have some nitro and would like to test how some would work
Just wondering if anyone has any experince with this mixed with some methanol. I was thinking about 5-10% nitro.

FYI nitro won't burn it will explode not to mention the increased flame propogation as well as increased heat and lower AFR's......
In other worrd i don't know but unless you have a bit of money to buy a new motor i wouldn't be the first one to try.

Personally, I would try it, BUT procede with extreme!!! caution. I would start mixing in like 1% or 2% incrememnts. Im assuming your speaking of running a little nitro in your single jet meth kit in the IC pipe?

I was thinking of running a mixture of meth/water/nitro with racegas. I remember reading somewhere that you can mix like 50% water, 45% meth, and 5% nitro. Nitro will seperate from the water/meth if you do not mix it over a certain amount . I'll probally test with a few mixtures to make sure 5% will not seperate. Would hate for the nitro to seperate, sink to the bottom, end up spraying 100% nitro.
I was wondering if anyone has tested this before on the evo.

At the time i was affraid of running to lean. With the MAFTpro I can set target AFR's to protect myself from suddenly running lean. I would theorize that I should gain some horsepower running the proper mixture. Won't be safe for everyday use but I fun at the track and safer than nitrous.
I am running BR8EIX plugs right now I wonder if I should get 9's. Screwed my last set of 8's messing with ignition retard on the MSD
So I think i'll order a new set tonight.
Sorry about the worthless post here. (something T-Squad is trying to avoid). But this has got to be the best avatar ever!

Oh yeah, interesting topic too. Subscribed.
BTW, this one is tied for second with mine:
Warrtalon has some work to do to play with Malcolm, Richard, and Albert!

For Gasoline, people use a product called NITROPROPANE. nitromethane does not mix with gasoline very well.Nitromethane as a fuel additive.
We are sometimes asked about adding nitro to gasoline or methanol. This is possible and it has been done successfully. However, there are a number of problems that make this impractical. These include the corrosive nature of the combustion gasses after nitromethane is burned. This process produces large amounts of nitric acid, which is not only corrosive but toxic. To prevent serious corrosion, a thorough flushing of the fuel system and motor is necessary after use. While it burns slowly, there is also the danger of explosion when nitro is used. Another issue is solubility. If you are running methanol, there is no problem as nitromethane and methanol mix freely. But nitro does not mix easily with gasoline. So, if a nitro/gas mixture is desired additional chemicals must be added to prevent separation.
Nitropropane - an alternative to nitromethane.
Both nitromethane and nitropropane are oxygen-bearing fuels. This means that nitro fuels carry two oxygen atoms as part of their chemical makeup. While nitromethane (CH3NO2) does not mix with gasoline, nitropropane (C3H7NO2) does. This makes it much more practical as an additive. A commercial mixture of nitropropane and antidetonation agents is available under the "Klotz" brand. Mixtures of ~10% nitropropane and gasoline have been tested and shown to provide small but significant power increases. A good writeup on this was published in "Hotrod" and is available online at http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/42018/ If you decide to try this, you must richen the fuel mixture and even then you can destroy your motor, so try this at your own risk!

There is also this as an option. http://www.pricechemical.com/super_concentrate.htm Nitro like any highly oxengenated fuel will require lower afr's. I have no idea how a wideband will react to Nitro. Might be fun to use though.
I run 35% nitro in my RC truck. We had a half-gallon laying around And put it in a mini bike(made for gasoline) And that thing kicked ***. This is about all the testing I have done with it. And if you have steal parts in the engine the methanol in the fuel is a hygroscopic, Which means it easily attracts and absorbs moisture. The moisture could cause rust and corrosion on steel engine parts if the fuel is not removed. I say just stick to good old C-16.
