CVT Transmission regarding boost

i didnt know exactly where to post this..its regarding a turbo but not about a turbo at all..

anyway i know some of us are going to go turbo with a CVT and of course thats going to void our warranty, but my question is..if we do void it wtih a turbo and somthing does go wrong with the transmission will they fix it at a cost? i mean if they refuse to that would pretty much suck since barely anyone out there is gonna have enough experince with CVT vehicles. i also heard though that the chances of a CVT transmission goin wrong compared to a regular MT are a lot less.

Yes... it will be very expensive, and the only thing they will deny is to cover it under warranty, but they will fix it at MSRP cost of parts and regular cost of labor

Very untrue... thats why most of the people that wants performance go with manual... CVT or even "consumer" automatic transimissions are designed to hold the stress that the STOCK engine puts out... With a manual tranny you change the clutch and you are good for some more horses... or with a racing built auto tranny, you dont have to worry about it...

why do you think its taking so long to RRM to release the turbo for the CVT? OH, and to repair a CVT transmission you better be ready to sell your liver to be able to afford it

They probably won't hold much and they'll break even more. I'm curious about the amount of stress it'll put on the turbo

I agree with EkTOR. Turbo will be 100% fine. Tranny will be the issue.

Yeah... no one really knows how the CVT will handle a large increase in power yet. RRM claims theirs is running fine with their turbo, but have hardly told us anything about it other than it "seems fine", and that they're working on a tranny oil cooler.

im sure it'll take the power pretty decent..the outlander has the same CVT as in the lancers..and it runs off a 220hp v6.. i know theres a big diff of 220hp and 300. but i dont think mitsubishi would make the cvt strain to handle a 220hp motor. thus causing more problems and them having to cover it under warrenty.

Not the same tranny... only the Outlander V4 has the same cvt as our lancers

it's not a "V4" ... it's an I4 ("inline" 4 or "straight" 4)... but yeah... the V6 equipped Outlanders have NORMAL automatic transmissions, NOT CVTs.

I find it amazing at how many people see the paddle shifters on some of the V6 Outlanders and automatically assume that means "CVT"....

I think its a common mistake because, on their site, they call the CVT a "sportronic" on the 4cyl model. They also call it a sportronic on the V6 model as well, just missing the "CVT" in the description, but assume its the same(I made this mistake as well).

why would mitsu call it a CVT?

Seems there's either confusion in Mitsubishi or their various PR departments are confused about their own products...

www.Mitsubishicars.com (4 main Trims: ES, LS, LXS, and SE. Each available in 2 and 4wd making a total of 8 models):
ES - I4 only CVT transmission only
SE - I4 only CVT Transmission only
LS - V6 only 6-speed Automatic only
XLS - V6 only 6-speed Automatic only

I wouldn't bother with a turbo CVT car. If you want power, get a manual and be done. You will need to remap the CVT electronics because it wouldn't know when to shift anymore once you triple the power output of your engine.
