CVT overheating

Just an update, I did an engine swap a few months ago(1.5l to 2.0 4b11 CVT). I live in Egypt and we have really hot weather here, temps reach 120 to 130 out in the desert. Anyways to make a long story short in regards to the CVT overheating, I get the transmission overheating warning a lot, so a couple of modifications I did was:

1. Changed water thermostat from a 180 to 160 deg. (which also cools transmission through the oil to water heat exchanger
2. Added a seperate oil transmission cooler with a fan connected to the main radiator through a relay.

Since then I have had no overheating problems. Even did a drive doing 120mph for a couple of hours in the desert and it was perfect. (No speed limits here, just have to avoid the camels). Just thought I would pass the info along. Moe

Sounds like driving in Egypt would be a Rally Car Racers dream!! Lots of straight aways, sand, great weather, and lots of obstacles ( CAMELS )

We should all move to Egypt, lol. Usually, the stock tranny cooler is worthless so you better off adding an external one. That by itself usually fixes the problem. Good writeup.

Another option that may help some is to convert to a Fully Synthetic Tranny fluid; ie.....Amsoil or Redline. These fluids dissapate the heat and tolerate it much better then the traditional fluids. Just a thought........

would have been crazy if you swapped for a 4b11t. does your car come with the paddle shift? glad you fixed the overheating problem. maybe road race should build a transmission cooler.

Refer to my previous post. Road Race is developing one and there should be a price and maybe go on their website by the end of the week.
