From a performance stand point and long life stand point. Its the smarter thing to do.
anywhere between 13 to 20 dollars per qt. depending on where you live.
stick to what the manual calls for. But you should be fine all the way up to 100,000 miles to be honest.

I would immediately change your cvt fluid. Invest in either Redline CVT fluid or ENEOS CVT fluid.

And i'd recommend that u only use the mitsu spec oil and no other cuz that too could cause tranny failure...

evo soul knows what hes talking about, those cvt fluids are ok to use although mitsubishi does only warranty the use of their fluids.
the cvt transmission oil does not need to be flushed until 60k miles, most drivers can actually go to 100k without any issues but if your modded and drive your car like you stole it sometimes then 60k should be the time.... (speaking of which im at 61k :\ ugh...)

tranny oil should be between every 40,000-50,000 dependent on driving style an conditions cuz u run the risk of transmission failure due to viscosity break down of the oil...

I wouldnt worry. Fluid break down isnt really the issue. Fluid contamination is... As the training video for Mitsubishi says.. the use of any other oil... even a little bit, can screw everything up. But the fluid itself doesnt really get hot enough to break down do to heat. Second. The volume of fluid is twice that of a normal tranny. To degrade the entire amount to the point where the tranny fails would be very difficult unless you were racing the car day in and day out.

Are you talking about the transmission itself or the screen on the dashboard with different pieces of information (such as PRND, etc.) on it? Or are you talking about the letters next to the gear knob?
