The way stated in the website you posted is for high horse power applications. Longevity might be different.

Everytime ive built a motor this is how i broke it in and never had a problem. Pull the ecu fuse and crank it over for acouple seconds to get the turbo and pump primed. Let it run to operating tempeture check for leaks and if everything is good take it out to the highway. Go into third gear do a couple pulls and let it decel by itself. After doing this the rings should be sealed. Do a compression and leak down test if everything is good drive it however you want as long as its tuned to be that way. Also drain and put new oil in after doing this. Thats what i always did never had one problem

this is how you break in a v8 domestic with a carb. this doesn't apply to newer EFI motors anymore...

UMMMM, ive broken in plenty of fuel injected motors like that. Why would it matter if the motor was carborated???? it wouldnt, so whats the difference since you seam to know.

I believe what this website says, and it's how I broke in my brand new Evo.
And if you actually read the article is says it applies to all 4 stroke engines, not just
A carb V8.

I can tell you that i broke in my new evo HARD....first 200 miles....Changed the oil 3x first 1000 miles....

I can tell you that my evo is very high HP stock..It dynoed at 277WHP...I am not saying that the break in is responsible...but it helped.

FYI, this might be of interest to you. This is from Eric at AMS.

Tom, Here is how we break in motors here with regards to oil:

For the first 500 miles drive at varrying engine speeds. dont baby it but dont shoot the moon with it. The key is seating the rings in a variety of partial throttle and short bursts of acceleration. After accelerating let off the throttle, while still in gear, letting the engine slow down the car.

Check the oil at every fill up. The shop staff here does that with there own cars every time they fill up if that means anything.

Please keep in mind the new motor will consume a little bit of oil durring break in and even after. Heavy abuse and high boost levels will consume oil on even a healthy motor.

here is how the oil change should break down.

First oil change at 20 miles 10W40 dinosaur oil...we use penzoil
Second oil change at 500 miles 10W40 dinosaur oil
Third Oil change at 1500 miles 10W40 dinosaur Oil

From here on out you can change the oil at 3000 mile intervals and may switch to synthetic if you choose.

You can never check you oil too much

Eric
