Noises

Most of the time when I let off the gas there is a grinding type of noise. It seems like its been doing this for a while so I cant really figure it out. I dont think its the exhaust, it sounds more like the drivetrain or clutch chatter

any ideas?

If you have warranty, and no mods, then take it to the dealer. Good luck though man!

does it only happen when you let off the gas?
does it matter if the clutch is in or out?

It is most likely gear whine of the transmission or the transfer case. As I have put more hard miles on my car it has gotten much louder. Also, if you have an aftermarket clutch it could be clutch noise as the aftermarket units don't have the quieting features of the stock unit (remember there are springs in the clutch disc and it can move back and forth a bit)

Just my thoughts.

if it does it in 1st gear with the car in gear and you let off the gas and the clutch is either engaged or disengaged, and sounds like there is gravel spinning around in a bucket, then that is normal. mine has done that since i got mine new and i've had no problems.

If the clutch is in, the ACT should not be making any noise since no power or torsional vibrations are being transmitted from the engine to the trans.

OK then it may be just decel gear noise which may be louder than with the stock clutch especially if you changed to a lighter flywheel too. Earlier you stated with the "clutch in" so I was confused.

yeah its the ACT street disk with lightened flywheel. Thats probably all it is. Thanks for the response!

I'm still scared to really drive it hard. I probably have around 290-300 WHP. Any tips on how not to kill the clutch other than the obvious (slipping and high RPM launches) ??

With that power level you can drive it about as hard as you like as long as you don't slip the clutch and the restrictor is removed. Dropping the clutch or high rpm won't be a problem at all. That is just harder on other parts.

if the restrictor isn't removed that just means it will slip the clutch instead of just dropping it all on the clutch so that it saves those "other parts"
