Exclamation Driveability Issues

I've experienced driveability issues with my '03 EVO before, and I keep reading threads about people who are experincing them and looking for help.
I would like to see a list of people who have or had and corrected various driveability problems related to engine function only. The problems would be things like:
Stalling
failing to start
Stumbling

It would be good to know if the car was stock or if it was modified, please list the engine mods only. Also, if you had these problems but were able to correct them, please explain what was the cause of the problem as well as the corrective action.

I have ongoing stalling/stumbling issues with my 03 EVO (from the other thread): car just does not want to run or sometime just does not want to start.

It sputters aftet it gets warm, whenever I stop at a light, stop sign or whatever. After it sputters for a few more time, then it just cuts out altogether.

This is not like the standard lopey stall with the 280, which was almost completly eliminated with jestr flash, this is like the motor is turned off or somehting. I have so far changed the: timing belt tensioner, crank position sensor, and the mechanic has spent countless hours on setting the timing.

My mods are: AMS TBE w hfc, 280 cam/gears, panel filter, JDM MR BOV, Hallman MBC,act street clutch w stainless line, walbro. Bottom end: knifed crank, clevite/acl bearings, all arp hardware etc. Eagle rods, wiseco pistons stock bore, all balanced and done professionally. Jestr custom flashed.

The car runs, but still stalls out from time to time, even just sitting parked.

Yeah, where is the 'I have NO drivability issues' option. I have an IX with a custom Dynoflash reflash and I have no drivability issues, if anything, its better than when it was stock.

Well, congratulations and there is no need to answer. I was hoping to gather information about the problems and solutions that people have experienced. If your car has no issues, it cannot add any information to this post/poll

Please, if your car is great you do not need to participate in the poll.... Actually, it would be best if only people that have experienced these issues or people who have successfully dealt with these issues would participate so the thread does not get cluttered with irrelevant posts.

If you want to tell everyone how good your (fill in the blank) is, please go here: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=181293

i just got a 03 evo about 2 weeks ago, and i had stalling problems, it would die coming to a stop. i adjusted the idle up a little to about 1000 rpm because it was at about 600. now that i have done that it idles all over the place it will sometimes idle at 1500 then when coming to a stop it idles at 400 and almost dies, the rarely idles at about 1000. i have dp, hks blow off, upper hard pipe, hks cat-back, profec e-01 and stock ecu. any help on this would be great, im new to evos and dont know much about them.

most of the peoples drivability probs will come from people that have bovs that arent adj properly, venting the the atmosphere when they have a stock computer, (93 fd ?) or have done something to the car themselfs, or a poor tuner has caused something.. take all these things into consideration when making a thread like this... also people not knowing how to explaining there probs correctly and misdiagnosing the prob, and coming on here and giving the wrong info..

yes get rid of that bov.. go with a stock one, plastic or pref. mr vesion.. or the forge bov.. if there is still a prob, check around the engine, check for normal probs, or take the car and have it reflashed by on the companys here.. maybe al on a trip somewhere close to ya..

You have a lot of mods so it could be any number of things... However, it's more likely than not that the BOV is causing those problems.... Another thing that could definitely affect your driveability is the tune with Profec. If you cannot get rid of the problems by putting back the stock BOV and removing the profec from the system, please take it to a reputable shop near you and see if they can help you... Personally, I've seen more problems from modifying the car than the benefits from it......

it isn't likely that the profec e-01 is causing the problem as it is at idle and he did not need to tune out his idle with his minimal mods. i would look into a better tune anyways as you don't know what those settings are doing to your car right now. unless you datalog or have a wideband and can interpret the data. definately start with the BOV.

sounds like you need a tune. or it might be the BOV... i've heard some bad things about them causing stalling issues.

I'll look around and see if I can find my stock plastic BOV... It worked fine as far as I know, but I switched to the aluminum BOV... If you are interested let me know...
