Lower Intercooler Pipe options? (LICP)

So I have some money burning a hole in my pocket and I think I'm gonna spend it on a LICP. Supposedly these help spool and sometimes at up to 10HP.

I've done some searching and found that AMS and Injen make nice ones and I see some cheap prices on EBAY piping kits. But I'm not really interested in buying the UICP and LICP combo. http://evotuners.net/parts/default.php?cPath=6_16

What other vendors carry LICP's and who has the best prices?

i have a fighters garage's licp, 145 shipped. I cant feel anything on the butt dyno but seems spool up is a tad bit faster. Nice looking piece and installing was a breeze.

Little OT but may be a valuable FYI fact for someone

I think it's important with how well the air flows on the cold side. I have the stock I/C setup and recently noticed the short rubber piece (right before the BOV Tee coupling in front of the fan) was slightly crimped and restricting flow. I put a new piece in there and pulled it in such a way that it wasn't restrictive and there was a significant improvement on the seat of the pants feel, especially with 1st and 2nd. I was suprised.

I'll check on that....but for the most part the stock UICP is fine.

As for the fighters garage pipe.....wasn't that only a bulk buy item?

I definately like the way AMS's pipe gradually opens up....The injen looks sort of abrupt.

More suggestions please.

interesting.. i had no problems with fitment whatsoever with my AMS piece....

buschur also offers one that i think is designed only for use with the stock IC and is not compatible with aftermarket ones... but do a search on it just in case. i've heard good things about fighter's garage, though many complained about the craftsmanship on the early pieces, but as long as there're no leaks i don't think there's really much cause for complaint since the FG ones definitely are less restrictive and are offered at a great price.

and 10 hp i think is waaaay optimistic even at the crank for a LICP. i think it really offers more in the way of driveability in increased spool and efficiency than actual power... i think if you get 3-5whp you'd be lucky... but hey, dont' take my word for it. there're many threads on the subject.

For the money you are probably better off investing in a set of cams.

hmmmm......this is disappointing news.

I normally on put money into proven mods. I am unwilling to spend $225 on a pipe that doesn't fit and cannot prove gains.

I know alot of people say it definately helps spool but honestly my car hits hard almost instantly the way it is. Grrrrrrr.

Is this THE Jeff Jeske from the DSMLink forums? How are ya?

On the LICP, I did the same thing...looked around etc. and tried to determine what gains it would provide, and what it was going to cost me. I was a bit hesitant to drop so much coin on a bent piece of pipe, but then I took a look at the stock piece. Wow. It's reeeeeaaaallly small. So, I went with the AMS -- which is made very well, and can be found for less $ (through Justin at TheLancerShop) compared to the AMS site.

As for fitment problems, I'd say those instances are extremely rare. In fact, I'm not sure how fitment issues are possible if it's installed properly. It comes with two pipes, two nice couplers, and clamps....and 99% of those I've seen who use it say it works perfectly. (this figure was 100% till I read this thread)

My .02 -- suck it up and get the AMS. You won't be sorry you did.

Yes this is the same fella! My love for open course racing migrated me to the EVO.

Ams Licp!!!

I picked my pipe up right at AMS and the fitment is fine. The undertray went on with no propblem and it seems to spool up dam quick. By the way I had paid $195 for this piece. I think it is worth getting. I could have easily made the piece but I said screw it. If you have any questions feel free to drop me a line ok.
