My stroker setup...comments?

As some of you may know my Evo died on me due to a spun bearing. After Jackson Auto Machine pulled my block apart they discovered that I spun the **** out of the number one cylinder bearing most likely due to detonation (bad tank of gas most likely).

Well as you probably know I am going with a 2.3 stroker kit and supporting mods. Here is the setup that I am going with:

Block:

2.3l stroker with

*2.4 Forged Steel Crankshaft
*Wiseco forged pistons, 8.74-1 cr
*Eagle H-Beam Conn Rods w/ARP bolts
*ARP main studs
*ACL perf coated rod & main brgs
*ACL perf coated shaft brgs

Head:

My head is being prepped with Jackson Auto Machine titanium retainers and valve springs:

These springs are good for cams with up to .400 lift
*16~JAM~Upgraded Valve Spring set
*16~JAM~Titanium Retainer set
Spring Specs:
*65 lbs @ 1.600
*79 lbs @ 1.560
*199 lbs @ 1.100

GSC 272/272 cams

Engine Management:
TurboXS UTEC
TurboXS MAP sensor
TurboXS IAT sensor
Pending: Tuned by TurboXS

Fuel:
Bosch 720cc injectors

Supporting Mods:
Buschur Race FMIC (this thing is huge!)
Walbro 255lph fuel pump
AEM SRI Intake
3" Helix Downpipe
3" Apexi Catback
3" Helix Highflow Cat
Halman MBC @ 20-23psi tapering to 16-17psi at redline
Pending: Exedy Twinplate clutch (still debating on which clutch though)
Pending: TRE built transfer case and transmission
Pending: Quaiffe Front LSD

Turbo:
Stock turbo until I get the cash to upgrade

Let me know if there is anything that I should be adding (not including the turbo since it's planned I just don't have the cash) or changing

My head is based on JAM parts, they know 4G63.
I'm sure that stroker will turn the stock turbo into a low end torque monster. That's what I'm planning also.

Very cool to hear! JAM has gotten really good reviews from all of the people that I have spoken to and they are also close to me so it makes it even better.

I can't wait either! I am getting very ansy but I know time = quality. All of my internal mods are being sent to JAM so they can machine any and everything for a great fit.

I will get numbers/driving impressions up for the setup as soon as I get the car back and tuned.

Is .400 a typo? If not, those are going to coil bind too quick. .400 inches = 10.16 mm. HKS 272s have 10.8mm lift.

I am sending my cams to them and they are going to spec everything out and match them to my head build.

BTW - I am using the GSC 272s

Nice list of mods, are you having any port work done on the heads?

I am not doing a ton of work to the head to keep the price down. If were to have head work I would add about $1300 to the build price. Right now i am trying to keep the project under 8K

OK, I finally got the car back and it purrs like a kitten. The engine is very smooth and runs better then stock. I just really can't get over how smooth the car is. Everyother built engine I have had experience with bangs and knocks when cold and you can tell that the tollerances are off. The work done by JAM is just amazing!!! I haven't been able to feel the the power difference yet since I am running on reduced boost right now for break in. I am not going to be overly gentle during breakin but I am keeping the revs down (per the instructions given to me by JAM) and doing frequent oil changes.

So far I can tell the the car is much easier to drive at lower RPM and boost response is retarded, seriously retarded. Spoolup starts at ~1900RPM and by 2500RPM she's at full song (turned up the boost just to get a feel).

I haven't put the injectors in yet since I am not tuned so for now I am taking it easy since I don't have anyway to ensure the car is running fine (I haven't installed the UTEC, WBo2 or gauges yet)

I have installed the Helix HF cat and BR Race FMIC. Install wasn't as quick as I was expecting for the Race FMIC but it was fairly straight forward. The end tanks on the FMIC lined up to the stock pipes really well so I just cut the stock couplings and fit them on the new setup. I didn't have to bend any brackets on the IC like some have mentioned. I had to cut off the tabs that connect the middle of the bumper to the crash bar but that was it. Also, the crash bar fit right over the IC with no cutting and no issues. I will be testing for boost leaks shortly also.

*NOT AN ADVERTISEMENT* I am not trying to detract from any of the other vendors but Jackson Auto Machine was wonderful! They were really helpful whenever I had questions and they have given me a beautiful engine. They have been working on the 4G63 and Evos for over 10 years and their knowledge shows. If you are in the market for a stroker shortblock give them a call. They may be a bit more expensive then some other setups but their work is second to none.

I will be getting the UTEC tuned by TurboXS in Maryland after the 500 mile break-in period. Man I can't wait!!! The miles will be going by really quickly.

Careful with the boost and no tune. My 2.3 with TBE, 272's, and stock injectors is at 11.7 AFR at 18 psi and 7k rpm on the stock computer map. Putting in the fuel pump and tuning monday and going to track Wed.

I know full well that the UTEC may not be the most "advanced" system but it keeps me compliant with local emissions (OBD-II scan) and I also have TurboXS an hour away from me to assist in tuning the car.

I considered the XEDE but I don't have any XEDE tuners near me. The TurboXS UTEC will give me everything that I need accomplished with my car so I am satisfied with it.

I have the boost at 11psi now and I will not be going over that until I get my 780cc injectors in and the UTEC tuned. Thanks for the heads-up though.
