I just bought my Evo a week ago and seemings how I am a very paranoid person and past owner of a 1g awd dsm, I was hoping to get some advice on this matter.

Since I have bought my evo I have noticed a bit of a whine while driving, especially in first gear. Now mine is a 2003 and I honestly couldnt tell you if its for sure coming from the transmission but I would venture to say it is. I was just curious as to how worried about this I should be and what precautions I should take? Should I have it taken in and checked out?

My tranny blew out on my talon but then again it was a MUCH louder and more frequent whining. I would appreciate anyones input on this. Thanks.

For what I know it's the tranny, but a little whining is common on our cars.

 

I've learned EVO's are quirky and have some strange drivetrain noises that are perfectly normal. I also had a whine grow into a grind and it ended up being a transfer case. Remember those are much more prone to problems in these cars than the tranny. It only takes one poorly executed launch to damage a Tcase it seems. And if you bought it used like I did....who knows....


I wouldn't lose sleep unless it changes or affects the drive/shifting.

 

Alrighty... that helps me out. As of now I have noticed nothing wrong with the shifting or anything of the sort. I am an old 1g DSM owner so I am a bit paranoid. Im loving the car so far, dont think I could have been anymore happy with my purchase. It was $23,000 well spent in me and my wife's book.
