Hey guys I have a stage 1 sheps racing tranny, 6puc clutch with a stock transfer case and rear diff when in first gear my car makes a whineing sound while on and off the gas or just pushing in the clutch while in first gear coming to a stop. And there is also chattering through all the other gears.

Just wondering if anyone knows if thats the transfer case or my tranny

the first gear whining is normal....what do you mean by chatter??/

 

It sounds like the clutch chatter you hear when your car is idleing but it does it from 1st gear all the way through 5th.

 

Anyone have any idea what the chattering noise is? I just got my sheps tranny put in not even a month ago I hope nothing is broke in my drivetrain but I think my t-case might be gone I have a leak where the transmission and t-case connects I was thinking a bad seal or something but I dont know I drained the transmission fluid and it was a dark brown color dont know if that is good or bad also drained the t-case fluid and it was a dark black/silver looking color and thats why i think the t-case is done.

anyone have any ideas...

 

your transfer case is goin on you when the liquid is coming out silver with the oil it grinding on each other am dealing with the same problem and its similar to a hum=ing noise only when i drive not at a stop but it sounds like your is worse then mine sheperd fixes this but its 1500 to do so prepare cause am about to send mine out monday.

Whoa man did you read this before you posted it? My car makes the same whine in first and only first. It also only makes it when decelerating. From what i have been told the noise is completely normal.

 

yeah thats what people have been telling me. when i first got my tranny put in it did not make any noise at all then all of a sudden one day i was driving around and it started to whine in first gear. does yours also do it even when you push the clutch in while in first gear coming to a stop?

 

Mine will only make the noise when the clutch is engaged. If i roll to a stop in neutral there is no noise whatsoever.

 

whats crazy about mine is that it whines when the clutch is engaged and disengaged in first gear the only time it stops making noise is if i put it in neutral. dont know if thats good or bad.

 

Ah man im sorry i must have read your post wrong. Mine will also make a whinning sound in first, even if im rolling to a stop with the car in first gear and the clutch not engaged. Im contradicting myself with my post about reading your post before you post it, my bad man. The thing is, your car is still in first regardless if the clutch is engaged or not. Its the "1st Gear whine" that is pretty popular in evos. I say that your alright, but this is my opinion and also what alot of others have told me. Also, is first gear the only gear in which you hear this whine? Do you excessively launch/beat on the car?

 

first gear is the only gear that whines. I have never launched the car with the new tranny I have raced the car though afew times but only from a roll. I guess I was just worried about the noise because I have never had it happen to be befor and after spending almost 3k on a sheps tranny I want it to last but thankyou for all the info man

thanks for the thread man my car is making the same noise but it only does it in first gear and everyone was telling that the first gear whine is normal. I know for sure that my t-case is going though just by the way the fluid was a black/silver looking color but from what everyone has been telling me my tranny is ok
