Lets talk about short shifters....

I have put 15,000 miles on my IX and so far all I have is one complaint......the tranny just shifts too rough, I want smoother shifts. So who makes short shifters for the IX? Anyone have one on a IX yet? I liked my kartboy short shifter on my sti so I was considering getting one for my evo, any thoughts on this?

a short shifter isn't going to make your tranny shift smoother. Maybe try a bushing set.

b&m adjustable short shifter is what I will put on my IX when I decide to get a short shifter. I have shifter base bushings now and the shifts definately feel crisper than stock. helped a friend put a b&m adjustable in his 8 and its amazing

A bushing set won't make it shift "smoother" either. The stiffer bushings will transmit more of the tranny vibration through the cables into the shifter.

So you have an MR or a base IX?

Have you ever changed your tranny fluid? If not, go ahead and do so to get all the metal shavings out.

IMHO, short shifters really suck, they get notchy after a while and I suspect they cause mechanical damage in the long run. I had the Perrin for 10k miles and took it out.

Change the tranny fluid? no I haven't yet.....so @ 15k miles I should change it? I thought at 30k the tranny fluid should be changed. or did you mean I should change it cause it would shift smoother? My main problem with the tranny is it doesn't want to shift into 2nd gear, I have to fight with it to get it or I won't even bother and skip 2nd gear all together. I usually have to do a 1st gear shift into 3rd......

Is your car still stock? Take it to the dealer....

I second the tranny fluid recommendation. A new tranny will shed some metal during break-in, it will stay in the fluid and could cause binding.

It recently put it back to stock, my only mod was a 80mm catback but I took it off and sold it to a friend. I guess I'll change the tranny fluid, before I call the dealer does anyone have an idea how much it would cost to change the tranny fluid? thanks!

If you do it yourself? Cheap... 3 quarts of GL-4 gear oil.

Have a shop do it? I have no idea, my car never goes to a shop....
